General Info:
The Staten Island YMCA Counseling Service offers hope to those whose lives have been turned upside-down by drug or alcohol abuse. Since 1980, we have provided the Staten Island community with comprehensive prevention and treatment services that promote the development of spirit, mind and body. Our state-licensed outpatient program includes treatment services for adults and older teens, prevention services for at-risk youth, and counseling services for children who have been affected by a family member's addiction. If you, a family member, or someone close to you is struggling with alcoholism or a substance abuse problem, don't wait to call. At the YMCA we recognize that because no two individuals are the same, no single treatment method works for everyone. During our initial evaluation, we look at every aspect of a client's life, working to better understand the unique circumstances that underlie their problems. Our counselors meet you where you're at, guiding each client to the best course of treatment for their current situation. Because we are committed to providing the right care to the right person, our services are not based around a single treatment philosophy. Instead, we draw on over 25 years of experience with a wide range of clinical methodologies to develop treatment plans that meet the specific needs of each client. Our diverse staff includes social workers, credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselors, psychiatrists, nursing staff, and other trained advocates, many of whom have overcome their own struggles with addiction. Our Services Include: Individual counseling Group counseling Family therapy and family skills training Vocational assessment and referral Positive alternative activities Career education and guidance Referral to alternative treatment programs Intervention with the criminal justice and child welfare systems

Overall

i strongly urge all parents to go to another fitness facility. The property manager at the south shore YMCA Charlie Mallon is a perpetual drug user who ive witnessed high on PCP while on duty on numerous occasions. I have received numerous phone calls from Mr. Mallon which were either harassing or pleading for help because he wanted to kill himself or others. I personally brought him to the detox on seguine ave. This man is mentally ill and needs to be in a long term facility. As of this week I on my own accord chose to relinquish my duties as an independent contractor at the YMCA. For the past 3 years Ive witnessed so much non professionalism by a few executive directors and Charles Mallon himself. For the past few years ive notified Mr.Mallon's bosses about his drug use and abusive behavior towards me and my family and nothing has been done. It seems that the executive's in charge would rather sweep every instance with Mr. Mallon under the carpet so the YMCA does not get any bad reputations. For a facility that sells itself as a family orientated organization which helps family in need and drug abusers they certainly didn't help myself or my girlfriend on the following incident. Mr. Mallon felt that I should give him money for doing contracting work at the YMCA. When I told him no he showed up at my house at 10pm with a baseball and started smashing the side of my house and destroyed my vinyl siding. When I came out of the house he was on the front lawn screaming give me my f***** money and then started calling my girlfriend a w**** c**t all my neighbors came out but he left before the police arrived. He came back again an hour later and did the same thing. This time i picked up something to defend myself chased him back to his car and he took off. I spoke to his boss and his bosses boss and nothing was done. He was able to keep his job and continue to pressure me for money to pay his loan shark( who also works for the YMCA). A few days ago i contacted Greg Coil a senior executive at the YMCA explaining my recent harassment and this perticular incident at my house and his response was "has he done anything recently". AMAZING not once was my girlfriend apologized to by the Y itself or Charles Mallon and they wonder why their losing members on a daily basis. So if you are a abusive perpetual drug user you may have a good future working for the YMCA. But if you are just looking to exercise and have your kids watched try LA FITNESS. They have free babysitting also. I myself Michael McGowan of Regal contracting donated $30,000 over the last 3 years to the YMCA and this is how i was treated. Imagine what would happen to you if you had a problem at the Y it would fall on deaf ears for sure.
