Both times my family and I stayed, was fun.... we had a huge 2 bedroom condo, the kitchen appliances were a little outdated, but was clean. Bring your own plates, pots, "kitchen things", and even dish soap.... floor are tile, which was great for the kids bring sand, and watery footprints. Two couches fold out to beds(bring extra sheet and blanket (they provide one, it is a very family crowded place, huge balconies, we had great water views on two sides of us, and we were able to fish right there all night (BBQ). Not suburbia, but was enjoyable for the family, and inexpensive for the size. Staff was great, was overcrowded in the pool area, a little noisy, which okay because my kids could be kids.... just remember it's a motel-- but with huge space in the condo- convenient access to fishing, and everything on the island... it has all the basics, nothing fancy.

We have been going to South Padre Island for over 35 years. first time at the Windwater. The room was huge with frig and microwave. We walked aroud in the evening and the paseo along the canal was very nice, guests were fishing right out their back doors. I'm sure there are catfish, flounder and sand trout looks like a very nice private and family friendly extra. The linen and towels were equal to any budget hotel we have stayed at. The beach activities retaurants and nightlife on the Island.
Its an older Hotel, that's very apparent, however I was surprised to find the quality of the king suite very good. Very clean and very equipped as far as amenities go. Wifi access in the bedroom and patio area was very usable. It was a decent budgeted experience and on a holiday calendar where overall its expensive everywhere else to stay. Friends of ours who stayed on the same date paid $100 more for a horrible dual queen room at another hotel. In comparison, we were very pleased.
