Oral Cancer Screening
According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, the best way to reduce oral cancer-related deaths is with regular oral cancer screenings. At Somerset Dental Arts, we use the OralCDx brush biopsy to test for oral cancer at the first indication that something may be wrong. With this method, a brush is pressed against any discolored areas or soft tissue that varies in texture compared with the surrounding tissue. The brush captures samples from every layer of abnormal tissue. The sample is then sent to our lab for testing.

Teeth Cleaning
In the early stages, we may be able to renew oral health for people experiencing gum disease with more frequent periodontal cleanings. Our hygienists will carefully remove plaque and tartar buildup during these hygiene visits to keep your gums healthy and prevent damage from gum disease. If gum disease progresses into the more severe periodontitis, we’ll need to provide more advanced treatments.
Fluoride Treatment
One of the key nutrients in the development of healthy teeth and bones, fluoride strengthens bone tissue and reduces the risk of decay by attracting minerals that fortify tooth structure. As teeth develop, fluoride should be ingested to improve bone density — but once teeth erupt from the gum line, ingested fluoride has minimal impact. Instead, the teeth benefit more from topical applications with fluoridated toothpastes and mouthwashes. Younger patients who are developing their hygiene routines and adults who are more prone to decay may also benefit from professional-grade topical fluoride treatments in our dental office.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants offer one of the fastest and most effective preventive dentistry services. If your teeth have deep pits and grooves or you struggle with frequent decay, applying a clear coat of dental sealant can help protect your smile. We simply apply the sealants to the surface of teeth in liquid form. Then, we use a curing light to harden the sealant material. Once in place, sealants are completely invisible to the naked eye.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Minor dental damage or decay has traditionally been treated using silver-colored amalgam. But recently, tooth-colored composite resin has become the preferred restoration material. Unlike amalgams that were crafted outside the mouth and held in place by wedges carved into the healthy tooth structure, composite resin offers a more cosmetic solution. Placed directly onto the damaged tooth, composite resin does not require the removal of any healthy dental structure. Tooth-colored fillings form a stronger bond than is possible with silver fillings.
Gold Restorations
We offer dental crowns and fixed bridges in a variety of materials, each with its own advantages. Gold restorations are often recommended for rear teeth, which absorb the most impact. Gold is much more durable and creates the least wear against opposing teeth. Porcelain-fused-to-metal restorations are nearly as durable as gold crowns, but the porcelain layer over the top of teeth improves the cosmetic appearance. We also have Brux-Zir zirconia crowns that offer the strength and durability of gold combined with a more cosmetic appearance.
Veneers
Veneers are thin sheaths of dental-grade porcelain that are fixed to the front surfaces of teeth that show when you smile. These high quality, durable cosmetic restorations allow us to quickly and easily correct a number of cosmetic irregularities with a single solution.
Crowns
Dental crowns, also known as caps, are dental devices designed to cover damaged teeth. These restorations are customized not just to fit over your teeth and rebuild your smile, but fit properly with your existing bite. The shape and size of the crown needs to be carefully taken into consideration to prevent jaw issues later. Once fabricated and placed, you won’t have to worry about the tooth breaking apart further, nor becoming infected.
