To maintain the standards of excellence women and their Obstetricians have come to rely on, all of our ultrasound technologists are registered diagnostic medical sonographers (RDMS) and MFAMA is one of the few practices in Northern Virginia with AIUM (American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine) certification for obstetric ultrasound as well as Fetal Echocardiogram. All of our physicians and ultrasound technologists are certified by either the fetal medicine foundation or the NTQR (Nuchal translucency Quality Review) for first trimester ultrasound screening, and they have all been certified for Transvaginal ultrasound cervical evaluation by CLEAR (Cervical length Education and Review) or Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF). Of course, all of our physicians are board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Maternal Fetal Medicine.
Obstetrics
–Most OB care is under a global fee and then additional services are billed to the patient by the Obstetrics provider. With MFAMA, since we are not the primary OB, we do not bill under a global fee and we will bill your insurance directly according to your insurance plan agreement.

Ultrasound
Yes. NIPT or non-invasive prenatal testing is a blood test. This test was developed as a screening test mainly for Down Syndrome. A screening test is one in which you can only assess risks, meaning that you can not diagnose only with that test. Since NIPT is a blood test for a specific disorder, it does not provide a comprehensive evaluation of your baby. A comprehensive test should include not only blood work but an Ultrasound to assess your baby’s anatomy. The NT scan is an excellent early comprehensive evaluation of your baby’s anatomy performed by a specialist in the first trimester. The majority of birth defects can be identified early in pregnancy before the end of the first trimester. In addition, the blood work that is part of the First trimester screening will provide very important information about the possibility of developing certain complications of pregnancy such as preeclampsia (high blood pressure specific to pregnancy), premature birth, poor fetal growth, and placental insufficiency.
