I originally heard about this place from an episode of Huell Howser's "California's Gold," so I made the pilgrimage. So much fun to wander aisles upon aisles of obscure, regional soda pops. I'm not even a soda drinker, but I had to purchase a few of the more unique ones, which could be made into stellar cocktails! They also have a great selection of hard-to-find candy. There's a deli counter here, too, if you're hankering for a sandwich.

Definitely the priciest supermarket in the neighborhood, but they do offer much better quality produce and deli items. I have used them for catering in the past and have always been impressed by the offerings. Love the "eyeshadow" lady at the deli counter who calls everyone "sweetheart." Lots of celeb sightings, too.
Gelsons is all about an enjoyable shopping experience. The selection on fresh items (meat, fish, vegetables...) tend to be sufficient. It's a great experience, but at a cost as most prices are in the whole foods and above range.
