Not to my standards for professionalism

A 15-year old, otherwise healthy dog seen by Dr. Richardson for a new prescription for rimadyl, an arthritis medicine similar to over-the-counter ibuprofen. After a complete well-dog exam, and obtaining a full set of labs for $250, he would not fax or call in the prescription to any outside pharmacy. Imagine your own physician requiring that you purchase any prescribed medicine directly from them, and not allowing you to obtain the prescription from Costco, or wherever you chose to fill the prescription. In human medicine, this is unethical behavior, and it seems unprofessional for a veterinarian.

Good in a pinch, but they will take advantage of your vulnerability.

Good care, based on the vet. Way way overpriced. They will also try to get you to do unneccessary tests to drive their revenues up.

Go elsewhere!!!!! (I was a longtime customer... and now would only use them MAYBE in an emergency)

My wife and I have been taking all our animals (2 cats and 1 dog) to several other area clinics for many years (including Rainier Vet, the Shelter on Dravus, among others) and they have been great. We moved to Greenlake area a few years ago and grew tired of the commute so we have taken them to Greenlake Animal Hospital several times. Although we had a few positive experiences early on - this place is not what it appears to be (or used to be.

For starters, the owner owns MANY other animal hospitals and have noticed that the existing fees have increased significatly (pills / medications) and have come up with some new ones. For example a
""dispense"" fee where they charge $11 just to GET the pills for you. They will tell you that ""other clinics do this too"" (because the owner owns those other clinics). When I finally decided to order my pet meds through a reputable online company they refused to give them a prescription for me and said it was ""against the law"" and that I ""shouldn't trust those online companies anyways becuase you never know what you are getting.... (etc)"" while in the meantime my cat gets very ill without his medication. I am left with a dilemna.

I must either accept it and either (A) go back to them for medication, which I they think they rely on because my cat must get a (expensive) check up before they will even give me the pills or (B) start the process all over again. I strongly recommend going somewhere else!

Not only a great vet - a great person

My dachshund became suddenly seriously ill the weekend before last with what we later found was a terminal autuimmune disorder, attacking her b-l-o-o-d cells (why is this considered an inappropriate word?). Even though she wasn't exhibiting very clear symptoms - something just wasn't right. Dr. Mortimer trusted my instincts and ran some tests. He marvelled at how sweet my dog was. Most vets seem so clinical and detached - but with him, it's obvious that he is a real animal lover.

Unfortunately, Dr. Mortimer was gone for the weekend, but he spent extra time with the oncall vet, explaining everything. When her condition worsened and we had to call the other doctor, he was ready for us. When it was revealed that she had a b-l-o-o-d disease and needed a transfusion, they sent us to a critical care clinic who could give the transfusion. They called them and faxed her records over there and they were waiting for us when we arrived. Ironicially the vet, who happened to be working there that day, was Dr. Mortimer's wife, who was also very compassionate.

Dr. Mortimer didn't forget us - he contacted the critical care clinic every single day that week, to check up on Ernestine. The day we had to euthanize her (which was so very painful beyond words), he called us just hours after it happened, and left this really sweet message, offering his condolensces and reassured us that we made the right decisions (tried our best and knew when to let her go). We even received a beautiful card from the clinic, personally signed by him, another vet that saw her in the past and the staff.

I really can't say enough about how wonderful Dr. Mortimer has been.

Understanding, helpful, honest

Dr Mortimer helped Luna and I get through a difficult time. He was willing to listen to every suggestion and question I had and helped me make the right decision. I really appreciated his sensitivity to our feelings while giving us all the options available. He honestly talked about the outcome of her prognosis and sought out all options while allowing us to make all the decisions along the way. He understood the dichotomy between quality of life and my want to hold on. I will continue to take all my pets to him because he truly cares about them and my attachment to them.

Ok vets, but TERRIBLE service and very pricey

The vets are fine, but they will lecture ad naseum about brushing your dogs teeth and tend to recommend a lot of tests. Where they really fall down is in service. The desk staff is surly, they are always running late, and tend not to set client expectations properly. After multiple botched appointments, I opted to take my pets elsewhere.

Dr. Mortimer is the best

Dr. Jeb is a great find. He listens well, is very attentive and obviously loves animals. He is thorough and always explains why he recommends certain treatments. The services are not inexpensive, but I find it's definitely worth it for the services my pets receive.

Not there when I needed them most

After bringing my Golden to Greenlake Animal Hospital for 16 years; for everything on a regular basis - the one time when he was old and extremely sick they were ""too busy"" to see him. I felt that after spending 16 years and thousands of dollars with these people there would have been some effort on their part when I told them that Bud was very sick and needed to see someone immediately. There was absolutely no loyalty to a longterm customer. Their response was to tell me to call another clinic. When I told them Bud had been seen there for 16 years, that I would be willing to sit in the waiting room all day to wait for an opening, that didn't mean a thing to them. Not how I felt a long term customer and a dog that they always seemed happy to see would be treated.

I have a used dog that I picked up 3 years ago, he is now 9, old grumpy and doesn't like going to the vet. I started taking to Greenlake Animal Hospotal and Jeb because it was close to home, but as luck would have it, also got a great vet. Jeb understands that even if my dog has ""issues"" he is still a part of my family and an important part of my life and treats both of us accordingly. As my dog gets older, I am going to the vet more and more, and am glad I have a great one.
