Ken's practice stresses representing small to medium sized business in all of their legal needs, including corporate structuring and contracting, administrative and regulatory issues, and defense or prosecution of litigation. His extensive business and construction background has given him a feel for dealing efficiently and effectively with business contracts and transactions, including numerous mergers and acquisitions representing both the acquiring and acquired parties. Since his admission to practice in 1979, Andy has represented motor carriers, brokers and forwarders in commercial litigation involving the Carmack Amendment and prosecuted actions to recover freight charges involving shipper/consignee disputes with the carriers. His transactional transportation practice spans the gamut of commercial transactions particular to the transportation industry – including representing buyers and sellers in the sale of privately held transportation companies, negotiating and documenting warehousing, logistics management and carrier agreements, preparing owner operator agreements and dealing with regulatory challenges to classifying owner-operators as employees for employment tax purposes.

Jim serves as Adjunct Faculty for the University of Phoenix, at Tukwila, and has chaired the Annual King County Bar Association Real Estate Law Seminar.
Construction Litigation
A native of Seattle, Ken began his legal career as corporate counsel to the Arabian American Oil Company, first in Houston and then in Saudi Arabia. While with Aramco Ken concentrated on drafting and negotiating commercial and construction contracts of values up to one billion dollars, and in assisting Aramco contractors in understanding both Saudi and US laws relating to business and commerce in the Middle East. On returning to the US, he entered private practice in 1978, continuing his construction related activities and using his commercial background to develop an active practice in business contracts, transactions and litigation.

Estate Planning
David Ketter and Ken Sheppard formed Simburg, Ketter, Haley, Sheppard and Purdy in 1984, along with Mel Simburg, George Purdy, and Jeff Haley. That firm opened its doors in 1984 as one of the first tenants of Wells Fargo Center (then First Interstate Center) in downtown Seattle. David Ketter maintained an established tax, trust and estates practice, and Ken Sheppard had returned to his native Seattle after serving as corporate counsel to the Arabian American Oil Company in New York, Houston, and Saudi Arabia, where he gained extensive business expertise. With the Departure of Jeff Haley in 1989, the firm became Simburg, Ketter, Sheppard & Purdy ("SKSP"), adding Of Counsel attorneys Andy Shafer in 2007, and Jim Jackson in 2009.
