In a pinch, I went to Babalouise for a cut and color (which normally takes about 2 hours). After five and a half hours getting this service done, I was unhappy with the result. I made an appointment for the following day with the same stylist for a 'fix.' The following day, I was there for 2 hours. I told my stylist that it still really wasn't what I had in mind.
She INSISTED THAT I GO HOME WITH FOILS IN MY HAIR TO CHECK THEM MYSELF.
I told her I was unc...view moreomfortable with that, but she still wanted me to go home with the foils to check them. What was I looking for? Blisters? Burns? Sorry people, that's what I paid you for.
The receptionist agreed to check the foils for me. When she did, my hair still looked orange. The receptionist asked the stylist if she would like to make a third appointment for another 'fix.' She said no - that she wanted me to live with it for a while.
So, it's not even the hair - which is more damaged than it has ever been and I walked out of there looking like a candy corn after seven and a half hours.
That was pretty terrible service.view less

Not a big fan.
I initially went to BabaLouise because my hairdresser for many years ,Tracey Stinson-Moore, is working there. As usual I was
very pleased with her work. Tracey has been the only hairdresser who has been able to figure out what to do with my difficult heir.
I would never trust anyone else to perform the same magic. She is not only professional but knowledgable about the state of the art
in hair color and hair styling. In addition, I have enjoyed the time
we have spent with each othe...view morer over the years discussing almost anything from soup to nuts.
The salon itself is laid back, casual and welcoming. It has the vibe of a neighborhood business which is reinforced by all the local
business cards on the bulletin board.
Schedule an appointment with Tracey and check out the salon!

I am fairly new to Seattle and thus yet to find the ""good"" places for various services. I was very excited when I learned of Babalouise over the weekend at the roller derby match on Saturday. It was in a great location in Ballard, the reviews were good so I decided to go for it...
It was promising. The salon was cute and everyone was very nice. The esthetician took me a nicely decorated, clean room. I told her what I wanted, and ironically, that my first eyebrow waxing experi...view moreence was a bad one b/c they took my skin off. But, that had not happened ever since, over 10 years ago.
When she gave me the mirror, my brows did not look professionally done. And, she apologized for taking my skin, which explained the burning sensation.. ""sorry about that, it will heal"" in a very nice manner mind you. She walked me to the counter to pay and told me her regular hours.
I was frustrated, disappointed, and annoyed. I got to the car and looked in the mirror. My eyebrows look BAD, just like I plucked them w/ no shape PLUS I am missing skin! I can't believe that I wasted my time and money, which who has have much of either lately.
Maybe I picked the wrong day or the wrong esthetician, but I will not be back to find out.view less
I bought a Groupon to this salon and learned an important lesson: NEVER choose a salon solely because the Groupon is a good deal. NEVER.
First, the good: the interior of the salon is pretty cute, they have good prices, and they threw in some foils with my haircut which made it a super-good deal.
The bad: The stylist (I think her name was Samantha) pressured me so much to let her cut my hair based on ""her vision"" that she was basically confrontational. She repeatedly pointed to ...view moreher license, saying ""I'm a licensed professional, I know what I'm talking about,"" called my current hairstyle ugly (which it wasn't...it just needed a trim!), and told me that sometimes people cry (at first, because of the catharsis of having their true beauty unleashed or some such BS) and she's ok with that. For some reason I allowed this woman to pressure me into allowing her to create her vision all over my head, leading to...
The UGLY: MY HAIR!! It's a mullet. It's so ugly. I can barely style it, and ironically, I spend much more time styling now than I used to (although the stylist told me that this would be a super easy, low maintenance style). Another important lesson learned: If the stylist tells you might cry and she's ok with that, do NOT allow her to cut your hair. Even if you've already paid for your Groupon.view less
So I had my first appointment at Babalouise after reading many reviews on here and excited to try them out since I've still been looking for a stylist who could handle my curly hair. I saw Heather who was great. I just simply got an all over color to cover up previous highlights that did not flatter me. Heather made me feel comfortable and we chatted the whole time (as oppose to having my head buried in a magazine for the entire process). The only reason I didnt give this review a...view more 5star was b/c I was thought the price was a bit expensive from what they advertised on their website and others reviews about affordability. On the site, it states starting price is $45 for an all over, yet I was charged $70 ($80 after tip). That was a shell shocker since I'm used to paying that much for a foil and assumed an all over color would be easier and less time consuming. I'm not sure whether they charge based on the stylist's experience, or hair length, etc... but I didnt expect to end up paying almost double the price I assumed would be charged. Money is tight and I wish I was informed of that price upfront b/c that would have changed my mind about scheduling my appointment as soon as I did. \rview lessProvided by Citysearch
For as long as I can remember I have been trying to find a stylist that ""gets"" my curly hair. I gave up a few years ago and basically resigned myself to ok haircuts figuring that curls are somewhat forgiving. Enter Ava at Babalouise. She's awesome! She listened to what I was saying, asked the appropiate questions, explained to me why my curls are doing what their doing and gave me my options as she thought them to be. She completly took her time with me, recapped the info. she gave m...view moree, checked in and made sure I knew to check back at anytime. The end result is a fabulous cut and ""evenly distributed curls"" throughout my hair. It looks and feels great . This just happened yesterday and already i've received many compliments. I will be back! Thanks Ava!view lessProvided by Citysearch
Mireille is the best superfantastic wax esthetician in town! I know this because I've had waxing done in more than a couple of places around town. She's technically great, but more so, she'll make you laugh. Cuz she's funny. But not as in stand-up comedian. She's just cool. She'll have you laughing though.\r
And how many times can you say that as someone is ripping off hair in those oh-so-tender places? Answer: not very often at all. It does make the time go faster. \r

Baba Louise won me over on the very first visit. Granted, I expected good things after no less than twenty different Ballard ladies referred me there while I was recovering from a terrible cut from across town. Lara was able to restyle my hair enough so that I could once again leave the house without a hat or a headband. She's a miracle worker!Provided by Citysearch
I fell into Baba Louise just before Christmas when all the other shops were booked for the holiday season.\r
Rudy's up the hill had a two mile line-up outside (and their cuts are always hit-or-miss). \r
I was able to book an appointment at Baba Louise within a few hours time with a guy named Chad.\r
I was a little nervous about a man cutting my hair ( a first for me), but Chad was \r
spectacular; relaxed, smart, quiet and easy to converse with. He also gives the most amazing sha...view morempoo ever. Also a first for me was the fact that upon leaving I didn't have to throw on my hat in embarrassment. Chad always made me look 100% better and was open to my suggestions regarding my unruly-cowlicked bangs. The environment is very cool with antique vanities and all the ladies look like someone you'd love to hang out with or go out with. I even recall seeing a little dog in there once and I like that, it is comfortably home-like. Unfortunately, the last time I called the salon Chad was on an extended vacation so I went to a different salon instead. I am still wearing my hat one month later and I hope Chad returns to Baba Louise soon to help me fix this mess on my head.view less
