Global Leadership Adventures
Trish K. rated

Hi, my name is Lily. Last summer, I went to the Dominican Republic with Global Leadership Adventures. It was such an amazing opportunity, I learned a lot and had fun, and it changed my life. The unique thing about Global Leadership Adventures is that it combines meaningful service work with fun excursions, all while educating the students about poverty and the environment. Going to the Dominican for ten days was definitely outside of my comfort zone, as I had never flown independently before, and had never been to sleepaway camp. Taking the leap and doing something so thrilling helped me to get more out of it. Looking back and seeing that I accomplished something so amazing continues to inspire me daily. Being in the Dominican taught me about a new way of life. I would not have gotten to know the Dominican people and their culture so well if not for Global Leadership Adventures. I also learned about the impact of climate change on third world countries as I helped to build a bottle house. This was the main form of service during my trip. A bottle house is basically a structure made from locally sourced plastic bottles that were once trash. We used them to make a six-room building to be used as a school, medical clinic, or whatever the village needs. We also planted cacao seeds as part of a reforestation project, which will help communities gain a source of food and income. When we weren’t doing hands-on service in impoverished villages, we spent a lot of time at the beach. The Caribbean waters were so perfect for swimming. We also went to Dudu Lagoon, into which we could zip line and cliff jump. The first full day in the Dominican was spent hiking Mt. Brison. It was a really difficult climb, especially since I am not an athlete, but it was important that we did that first. Everything after that seemed easy in comparison. It felt incredible to have accomplished something I never thought I could do by hiking a mountain. Some days, we just hung out at base camp. There was a pool, and we could always walk to the beach right across the road. We spent a lot of time playing cards, which was a great bonding experience. Without Wi-Fi, we had to entertain ourselves during downtime, but it was crucial to get to know the other kids on the program. I do not hesitate in saying that my trip to the Dominican with Global Leadership Adventures changed my life. It was a truly humbling experience. After seeing such poverty, it made me appreciate what I have even more. It also inspired me to continue to actively participate in the community and to constantly work toward making a difference. I think about my time in the Dominican literally every day since I returned home last August. I strongly recommend going on a service trip with Global Leadership Adventures. It may not be what you’re used to, but once you take the jump out of your comfort zone, you definitely won’t regret it.

Fantastic Restaurant

what a great concept for a restaurant! Fantastic tasting food and get this....an all "half-bottle" wine list!! Perfect. The owner is Zubin Desai, whose resume includes such places as Laurel, University Club and most recently Blanca. Our amuse was a vegetable frittata served with a micros greens salad. Very yummy! We ordered the charcuterie plate, the mushroom soup and the bacon belly for our first course. The charcuterie comes on an "artist palette" plate. The pates, terrines and sausages were amazing. The chef told us that he makes all of them from scratch in-house. My GF still raves about the taste and the presentation of the soup. We actually saw them making the sausages from the kitchen display window on our way out. The bacon belly was moist, delicious and apparently smoked in-house. The chef told us that with the exception of bread & cheese, he makes everything from scratch inhouse. I ordered the quail as my entree and my friends ordered the frog legs and the duo of duck. I've never had such a delicious meal in San Diego, ever! The combination of flavor, texture and presentation on every plate was unique and well balanced. Every item was perfectly seasoned as well. We learned from the chef, John Kennedy, that he's got quite a culinary background. He has at one point or another worked with the likes of Thomas Keller, Charlie Trotter, Gary Danko, etc. Very impressive and it shows in his cooking. On the night that we dined, they did not have the antelope osso buco ready. Bummer! But that's just an excuse for us to go back!! For our dessert, based on our servers' recommendation, we tried the bread pudding which was served with an irish whisky sauce. Absolutely to die for!!! Chef told us that it is his grandmother's recipe. Very tasty. They have about a 150 or so half bottles of wine. We tried a white from France, a red blend from Lebanon, a cabernet from Australia and couple of glasses of the ice wine from New Zealand. Btw, the only wines available by the glass are the dessert wines. We asked about their corkage policy and Zubin told me that its $5/bottle. That's cheap. Needless to say we were extremely impressed. To say that this place is a good value, would be an understatement. We are hooked. Since we live nearby, we will certainly be a regular at this lovely place. 5 stars all around!

Prime Dental Care Family
Sean E. rated

I have consistently had good experiences with Prime Dental Care. I love Dr. Majd and the staff. They have been nothing but nice and courteous to me. I had A LOT of questions and was extremely nervous about some treatment that I needed and everyone was very patient with me and explained everything very thoroughly. I HATE going to the dentist and have never been a fan of it, but once I am there, the Prime Dental Care staff calmed me down a bit and made it bearable. I have referred my friends and family members to them and they have had positive experiences too. I would never refer anyone to a place that I wouldn't stand behind. Prime Dental Care charged my insurance and explained the cost and my charges in detail so I understood what I was paying for. I will recommend her to all my friends and relatives.....I also took my 10 year old for exam and fillings, she took her time and my son LOVED IT......
