Hi, my name i Lily. La t ummer, I went to the Dominican Republic with Global Leader hip Adventure . It wa uch an amazing opportunity, I learned a lot and had fun, and it changed my life. The unique thing about Global Leader hip Adventure i that it combine meaningful ...moreervice work with fun excur ion , all while educating the tudent about poverty and the environment. Going to the Dominican for ten day wa definitely out ide of my comfort zone, a I had never flown independently before, and had never been to leepaway camp. Taking the leap and doing omething o thrilling helped me to get more out of it. Looking back and eeing that I accompli hed omething o amazing continue to in pire me daily. Being in the Dominican taught me about a new way of life. I would not have gotten to know the Dominican people and their culture o well if not for Global Leader hip Adventure . I al o learned about the impact of climate change on third world countrie a I helped to build a bottle hou e. Thi wa the main form of ervice during my trip. A bottle hou e i ba ically a tructure made from locally ourced pla tic bottle that were once tra h. We u ed them to make a ix-room building to be u ed a a chool, medical clinic, or whatever the village need . We al o planted cacao eed a part of a refore tation project, which will help communitie gain a ource of food and income. When we weren’t doing hand -on ervice in impoveri hed village , we pent a lot of time at the beach. The Caribbean water were o perfect for wimming. We al o went to Dudu Lagoon, into which we could zip line and cliff jump. The fir t full day in the Dominican wa pent hiking Mt. Bri on. It wa a really difficult climb, e pecially ince I am not an athlete, but it wa important that we did that fir t. Everything after that eemed ea y in compari on. It felt incredible to have accompli hed omething I never thought I could do by hiking a mountain. Some day , we ju t hung out at ba e camp. There wa a pool, and we could alway walk to the beach right acro the road. We pent a lot of time playing card , which wa a great bonding experience. Without Wi-Fi, we had to entertain our elve during downtime, but it wa crucial to get to know the other kid on the program. I do not he itate in aying that my trip to the Dominican with Global Leader hip Adventure changed my life. It wa a truly humbling experience. After eeing uch poverty, it made me appreciate what I have even more. It al o in pired me to continue to actively participate in the community and to con tantly work toward making a difference. I think about my time in the Dominican literally every day ince I returned home la t Augu t. I trongly recommend going on a ervice trip with Global Leader hip Adventure . It may not be what you’re u ed to, but once you take the jump out of your comfort zone, you definitely won’t regret it. view less

Fanta tic Re taurant

what a great concept for a re taurant! Fanta tic ta ting food and get thi ....an all \"half-bottle\" wine li t!! Perfect. The owner i Zubin De ai, who e re ume include uch place a Laurel, Univer ity Club and mo t recently Blanca. Our amu e wa a vegetable frittata e...morerved with a micro green alad. Very yummy! We ordered the charcuterie plate, the mu hroom oup and the bacon belly for our fir t cour e. The charcuterie come on an \"arti t palette\" plate. The pate , terrine and au age were amazing. The chef told u that he make all of them from cratch in-hou e. My GF till rave about the ta te and the pre entation of the oup. We actually aw them making the au age from the kitchen di play window on our way out. The bacon belly wa moi t, deliciou and apparently moked in-hou e. The chef told u that with the exception of bread & chee e, he make everything from cratch inhou e. I ordered the quail a my entree and my friend ordered the frog leg and the duo of duck. I've never had uch a deliciou meal in San Diego, ever! The combination of flavor, texture and pre entation on every plate wa unique and well balanced. Every item wa perfectly ea oned a well. We learned from the chef, John Kennedy, that he' got quite a culinary background. He ha at one point or another worked with the like of Thoma Keller, Charlie Trotter, Gary Danko, etc. Very impre ive and it how in hi cooking. On the night that we dined, they did not have the antelope o o buco ready. Bummer! But that' ju t an excu e for u to go back!! For our de ert, ba ed on our erver ' recommendation, we tried the bread pudding which wa erved with an iri h whi ky auce. Ab olutely to die for!!! Chef told u that it i hi grandmother' recipe. Very ta ty. They have about a 150 or o half bottle of wine. We tried a white from France, a red blend from Lebanon, a cabernet from Au tralia and couple of gla e of the ice wine from New Zealand. Btw, the only wine available by the gla are the de ert wine . We a ked about their corkage policy and Zubin told me that it $5/bottle. That' cheap. Needle to ay we were extremely impre ed. To ay that thi place i a good value, would be an under tatement. We are hooked. Since we live nearby, we will certainly be a regular at thi lovely place. 5 tar all around! view less

Amazing program! I went on the Global Leader hip Adventure Peru: Service in the Sacred Valley program in the ummer of 2014. I wa in a group of high chool tudent who all tran formed over thi trip. We learned about Peruvian hi tory and culture by ight eeing (Machu Picc...morehu wa my favorite) and attending cultural pre entation almo t daily. Our ervice project focu ed on building a greenhou e for a local village in Cu co, and we al o vi ited their chool every day to play with the children and teach them ome Engli h.
