Walks With Zara Dog Walkerssammy rated
Entrusting Mr. Barkypants, my ...

Entrusting Mr. Barkypants, my first-born son, to a dog walker is akin to how I imagine it might feel to someday entrust a less furry child of mine to a nanny: He/She sure as hell better be committed, conscientious, able to survive blizzards*, and love Mr. Barkypants as his/h...moreer own. Using this (perhaps slightly unreasonable) standard, I interviewed many, many dog walkers before I found Walks With Zara Chicago Dog Wlalkers, a dog walking company that Russell and his business partner own and operate. Though I haven't yet had to put them to the blizzard test*, it is clear that Russell is an excellent dog walker and human being. I feel strongly about not having just any random person walk Mr. Barkypants: I've witnessed how some walkers who work at larger operations treat (or rather mistreat) the 5-10 dogs they walk at once. Sadly, it doesn't seem uncommon for some dog walkers, on the north-side at least, to roughly yank leashes or yell and scream at dogs, or to refuse to stop walking to allow one of their charges to use the little dog's room, or to tie dogs up to a post in the park while the walker enjoys a cigarette and long chat with his friends. I am confident that Russell does NOT do this; Mr. Barkypants would probably behave very differently with him than he does. Interestingly, though Mr. Barkypants isn't terribly fond of strangers and he is particularly non-fond of strangers who are male and who wear hats, he took to the hat-wearing Russell like he took to liver treats from the first or second walk on. Russell has a gentle, quiet, calm, non-domineering manner with dogs (and humans, really). He isn't embarrassed about speaking to dogs in goofy voices -- a talent I quite appreciate. Moreover, wrt his human dealings, too, Russell is prompt and as honest as Abe: He lets us know when he isn't able to walk a full hour (because of severe weather or sickness) and deducts from his pay despite our asking him to take the full amount. Rates, by the way, are extremely reasonable for Chicago dog walking, especially since Mr. Barkypants gets Russell all to himself on walks. According to their website, Russell is bonded and insured as a dog walker and is a member of the Association of pet sitters. I can speak with knowledge about Russell's excellent credentials as a dog walker. He *will* treat your dogs with respect and patience -- or at least I'm pretty sure they will based on how they've treated my first born son. I can't recommend him enough. view less

C leavey LEAVE!! Most Wonderful Place to take your dog!!!

I DO NOT know where that lady who gave Collar and Leash a bad review is coming from but I think she's a little stuck up. I have been boarding my dog Taz which is a German Shepard/Chow mix for 10 yrs. First of all, my dog was never allowed to sit in his own feces and urine e...morever and never smelled when I took him home. As a matter of fact as soon as my dog goes to the bathroom outside the owner goes out there to clean it up right away. Also, if her dog was covered in feces and urine the kennel itself would smell and not in my ten years going to Collar and Leash have I smelled one bad smell. Second, Dan Raymond and his wife Sonja are the most kind, caring, and down to earth people. I haven't had one problem with this business or them. My dog LOVES to go here everytime we pull up he goes crazy wanting to get of my car. As soon as he sees Dan and Sonja he goes crazy with tail wagging and kisses. Dan and Sonja care so much about the animals that it is impossible that the accusations that the lady made are true. Collar and Leashes property is clean and very well kept up even in the winter. You walk into the office and it smells wonderful, always decorated for the holidays, nicely painted, and it has a very homey feel. When my dog is there Dan lets all the dogs out at least 5 times a day and the dogs have water ALL DAY LONG!! Dan feeds the dogs everyday and feeds more than enough. The grooming by Sonja is fantastic, the best that I've ever had, and there is not one hair that comes out of my dog when I come to pick him up. Not to mention the low prices, I pay 19.00 a day and I can also call and check up on my dog to see how he is doing, but I dont because I know that he is in great care. Another great thing you can also get a tour of the whole kennel facility nothing is hidden. When that lady said that about Collar and Leash I know it offended Dan and Sonja because all they do is give the greatest care, love, and attention to the dogs. Those comments also offended ME because I've been going there for so long. That lady must have been having a bad day and all I can say Collar and Leash is the best place to take your dog for grooming or boarding. I PRAY FOR EVERYBODY!!!! THANK YOU DAN AND SONJA FOR TEN WONDERFUL YEARS AND MORE!!!!!!!!!view less

Dog House Of Beautyjdiggity rated
The best groomer I've encountered

If your dog is nervous or if you're prone to worrying about how your dog is treated by various pet services, this is an ideal place for dog grooming. I'm the type of person that is always hovering over my dog, checking to see if he is ok. I have a poodle, and he is a little...more bit sensitive when his feet are touched and is a lot sensitive when the hair from his ears need to be plucked. On both counts, I HIGHLY recommend Brandy of Dog House of Beauty. I've stood and watched her do her job, and she is patient and gentle. She makes sure that your dog is relaxed at each step of the process before she continues. My dog LOVES going to get groomed, but only at the Dog House of Beauty. He pulls and whines when we get out of the car, desperate to get into the shop. We also use Brandy's boarding services. She walks them four (I think) times a day, and lets the furry guy sleep in her bed! Warning: If your dog has sensitive ears or is prone to ear infections, do NOT GO TO PetSmart. I know from a friend who is a dog groomer there that they are trained to pluck out the ear hairs very quickly, regardless of the pain and discomfort it inflicts. My dog got an ear infection after each of the three times we had him done there, and we would find blood in his ears. He’s never had an ear infection after visiting the Dog House of Beauty.view less
