Positive: Getting a glass at this cozy little Los Feliz bar is more of a wine tasting experience. Tell the gentlemen behind the counter what you like and they'll give a few suggestions, pour you a few tastes until you've landed on a flavor you'll commit to a whole glass of. ...moreThey're knowledgeable, so you'll learn what you like and don't like, and they've got some really nice rare stuff. Also great are the bar bites - particularly the croque monsieur (the only substantial item on the wee menu, but it's a meal) Negative: The noise. Because the walls are a wine-cellar type material, as is the floor, Covell has a cavernous effect. Just a couple dozen people in there talking at normal levels ricochet off each other to a deafening level, and what should be a very laid-back, conversation -heavy experience (particularly as you're supposed to be able to discuss wines with the bartenders) becomes a screech-fest more appropriate for a sports bar. Covell is doing a brisk business and I hope they stick around -- shouldn't be a problem if they can just solve the acoustics issue. view less

Ambiance, Food and WIne sum up Corkbar. A great place to go for a quick drink or a full meal. The food is great and the tasting kitchen on Tuesday's make a trip worthwhile. I especially like the frequency by which the menu items change so you are always trying to new dish...more. The team there is extremely knowledgeable about wine (especially Rob.. make sure you tell him what you like and he will pick the right wine or beer for you). I am a picky wine drinker but they seem to get it right every time. Some things to note however, the wines are all California but I think that makes it more appealing. Also, they just recently started opening for lunch on the weekends (used to open at 3 but now at 11:30). Corkbar is worth a try for sure.view less
