Ocean Beach, home to surf and head shops. A melange of antique stores fuse with bars, restaurants, and hobo chic boutiques. When you're in O.B., expect warm and friendly people, a chill vibe. This is not downtown, but a laid back community not trying to prove a thing, and not needing to. It might surprise you then---as you are strolling down Newport Ave---to stumble across Miss Match boutique, a trendy sheik contradiction, because although the store stocks name brand clothing, it still surprisingly maintains an unpretentious casual feel. Walking through the doors of Miss Match you are greeted with modern crystal chandeliers reflecting light pink walls and vintage patterned wallpaper. The store is spacious, the clothing artfully arranged and accessorized. Colors pop, from the bright blue clutch to the hot pink floral shirts. Brand names like Rubber Ducky, Collective Concepts, Free Loader and Michael Antonio mingle with bands of less stature. Fresh cut flowers pose next to a collection of popular costume jewelry, platform heels, and of course there are the dresses. The selection is astounding, from a variety of lengths, patterns, and styles; whether you're headed to Vegas for the weekend, your sister's bridal shower, or Stingaree downtown this store has the dress you need for any event or occasion.

This last Christmas and birthday season (I have one of those unfortunate December birthdays falling within a few days of Christmas), I was fortunate enough to receive an abundance of gifts from friends and family. However, the one that really stood out from the crowd, that practically made me tear me with how much thought much have gone into it, was a personalized coffee mug. This particular gift stood out from the crowd, and is treasured not only for itself, but for the constant reminder of the caring person who went out of their way to give me something personalized just for me. When you really want to show someone how much you mean to them, (and have fun creating something unique), getting them any item that can be embroidered, engraved, or in any way personalized, is by far the best way to go. EmbroidMe San Diego has an incredibly large assortment of not only apparel, but mugs, glassware, bags, uniforms, towels, and even lip balm, that can all be personalized in a number of ways. Items from EmbroidMe will be appreciated and loved, and are perfect for any gift giving occasion!
I was in town for a conference and looked up all of the nearby record stores. FeeLit was my first stop. Great place. Good variety of records and other cool stuff. The guy working that evening was the best. Showed me around the store, put some of my selections on the store stereo and made sure all of my choices were cleaned before I left. The vinyls were already in excellent shape, but I appreciate him making sure they were as clean as they could be and he even set me up with a media mailer to make sure they got home safely. Ended up with about five used vinyls and one new release. Good prices on all. Great store and excellent customer service. If you are in town and staying in the Gaslamp district, just walk on over to FeeLit and get your vinyl fix.
