My husband was a patient at Kindred in Richmond for a month in 2011. It was the middle hospitalization of a three month/three hospital stay following a massive brain stem stroke. I agree with other posts concerning the long distance from our home; we live in Fredericksburg and it was a tough four weeks. However, this was the perfect place for him. There is nothing like it in our area and driving north into the DC area was absolutely not acceptable. The staff at Kindred was at all times thoughtful and caring, not just of my husband but to me and our daughters. There was always someone to speak to concerning his care. Everyone from the nursing assistants to the nurses, the doctors, therapists, the pharmacy and the administration did all they could to make this as good an experience for us as was possible. My husband's care was tedious but they never complained about the setbacks. They made certain we were in the loop at all times and if there was ever a question about his care someone was available to speak with me within a reasonable time period. Any problems were taken care of quickly and without question. We went back to visit the facility recently. They remembered us, which is amazing to us both. The people who are there care about their patients. They make it personal. They are saddened when something is not working and elated when there is progress. When we left Kindred my husband was barely able to get out of bed and into a wheelchair with assistance. The PT staff cried when they saw him walk in with a walker. They were delighted with his progress, even two years later. When a critical care facility is no longer necessary and a rehabilitation hospital is not yet feasible, this is the exact place a patient with multiple issues needs to be. We are so very thankful that we spent those four weeks at Kindred. We could not have been in a better place.

With prostate cancer, I have become all to familiar with this facility. With that being said, these people have provide extraordinary service and care for me. I have been there for routine colonoscopies, CT and bone scans, and out patient surgery. The care couldn't be better from the nurses to the doctors to the anestheoligists to the technicians. Are there some who don't seem as nice as I'd like--sure, but I am very confident in the care they give.
Vibra took over Kindred and really changed this place around! We took a chance and sent our dad to help with all of his wounds, and we experience really great care. The nurses were really attentive and really sought took care to see that my dad's wounds get better. The doctors were always available when we needed them. The good news is that my dad got a lot better and is now happily recovering at a nursing home.
