We were very excited to go to Sassi last night for the first time since we heard of the spectacular ambiance and outdoor patio seating, which was just as beautiful as described to us. We ended up thoroughly disappointed with the evening, however.
The food portions are very small (smallest portions I've ever seen). For what you pay for the meal (high-end prices), it is an insult. The meal was also shockingly average in taste and quality. The worst experience was with the dessert. A place like this should offer exquisite desserts. I ordered biscotti with espresso and double chocolate, etc. It was written up like the most incredible mouth-watering dessert I was ever going to have. What came out can only be described as generic boxed cookies from some warehouse - the worst cookies I've ever eaten anywhere. They were ""pathetic"" to say the least. I could have run to the Circle K and purchased better cookies for $1.00!
I have food allergies, which I thoroughly discussed with my server prior to ordering. She was very kind and accommodating during our conversation. My allergies are to nuts and pork. Well, the soup came out with bacon sprinkled on top of it (pork). The server took it back and brought me another bowl. So, I was just going to let it go as an honest mistake. Well, then my dessert (the boxed cookies) came out with nuts in it! Okay, now I'm out of patience with the situation, so asked for the manager. She really wasn't all that professional or friendly. I expected her to deduct my meal from the bill, but that wasn't even suggested. She offered a free meal to take home instead, which I agreed upon, but shouldn't have. Well, the next day I decided to have that free meal for lunch. It was seafood pasta. Well, again, painfully small portion which consisted of 3 shrimps and 4 tiny claims with a small amount of pasta. That's it! Enough for a child to eat. The flavor was pretty good though in this dish.
Would I ever recommend this place to family or friends. Absolutely not! There are a lot of wonderful places to eat in this valley that offers a much more enjoyable overall experience and certainly much better value for your money and time.
