This place cares nothing about your pets. All they care about is your money and how much they can squeeze out of you. I recently took my very ill cat there. Where he was taken away for two hours without us being told what was happening to him or what was going on. All they kept asking for was permission to do different procedures and tests on him that cost an outrageous amount. When I finally saw him, without their permission, I saw him in the back room. It was obvious it was to late and he was going to pass no matter what was done. If the vet truly cared about what was best for the animal she would have suggested putting him down, she knew he was going to pass but all she cared about was getting as much money out of us before he did. Long story short we requested to take him home. We made him peaceful and about 10 minutes after getting home he passed. All this "vet" did was take our money and waste my cats last few hours alive in a poor excuse for a office when he could have spent them in his home that he loved. This "vet" should be fired and feel ashamed of herself. If you work with animals you should do what's right for them not your wallet. I don't mind paying any amount to make my pets happy but I don't want to pay to line your wallet at the expense of what is best for the animal.

I would like to show 0 Stars for Calumet Emergency Vet Clinic in Schererville! Someone I know took his dog who had been hit by a car late at night to this place and was asked how much money he had to pay for their service. He is a young man who works two jobs but he did not have enough money or savings to cover whatever the charge was going to be. His dog meant the world to him! The options they gave him was 1) to take his seriously injured dog with him or 2) to leave his dog and they would decide whether or not they would treat it or put it down - but he would never be able to find out the outcome EVER! If they treated his dog and it did okay, they would find another home for it but he would not be able to find that out either. (To be fair, they may have also offered the option to have her put down right then also, but I don't know that for sure.) He loved this dog dearly so the only choice he felt he could make was what was best for his dog. And that was to leave her there to hopefully receive treatment, knowing he would never see her again or know if she went to a loving home. That is unbelievably cruel to do that to someone who loves his pet! I know the clinic has to be in business to make a profit but there should be something else that could be offered - i.e., a payment plan or a chance to see if he could get the money from friends or family. Something!!! I would have offered some assistance, rather than this outcome. Makes me wonder why the vet became a vet in the first place. So sad!

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!

I brought my 16+ year old cat Newman in with an obvious broken leg and bleeding. I was sure that he would have to be put to sleep. The staff was very efficient from the get go and compassionate to our situation. Dr. Lawrence and the rest of the staff made this Christmas one full of miracles! Newman is alive and healing well. I would recommend Calumet Emergency Vet Clinic without hesitation.

What a joke!

I just want to say that this place is horrible! I have been there about 5 times over the years and was satisfied (other than the price!) until my last visit. My dog was born with a congenital condition and he had been on medication in the past and had been seeing our family vet. Well, the condition worsened over a very short period and we decided to go to Calumet early one morning. I just want to say that I have NEVER been treated in such a demeaning and degrading way! The "little foreign lady" that they refer to as a Veterinarian (yeah, right!) acted as if I had given my dog this condition! She talked to me as if I was the biggest animal abuser in the world! (even though I had my dog's medical records showing that he had been seeing our vet!) I have never been so appalled! I volunteer for rescues, take animals that nobody else wants and i'm going to school to be a Vet Tech! I pamper my animals and I would never abuse or neglect an animal! That Vet should not be practicing! In the future, I will be driving further to an emergency clinic!
