DAGWOOD's has nothing to do with the comic strip. The food is good all the time. However, it is unique to this place. The pizza is not NYC ...it is Dagwood,s. Same for the salads and subs. They have a flavor all their own. Not bad, just a little different. The resteraunt is clean and bright with both in and outdoor seating. There is usually a sports program on inside. DAGWOOD"S also serves wine and beer in bottles and on draft which is a nice touch. I go there once every two or three months for the last five years when I want a slight variation on pizza and a beer. They also deliver. Worth a try if you are on the West Side. Also a good place to eat with kids.
Disclaimer - I'm from New York, so my comparison is hard edge.... The "regular" pizza is good. Crispy crust, tasty sauce and cheese. If it is supposed to be like true New York pizza, needs more oil :) The "square" pizza holds up to being as good as a New York joint. Pizza is slightly expensive for what you get. The "Mexican import, real sugar (not high fructose corn syrup), Coca Cola is almost 3 times the price a Bay City, or other eateries. That's a rip off no matter how you cut the mustard. Service is lackluster, workers less than friendly. Give it a try, you won't complain about the food.
I grew up in NYC and have gastricly bemoaned leaving for years. THE SLICE uses some of the freshest ingredients this side of the Hudson River. Their high quality cheese is excellent and rare for Los Angeles. They will customize any order to your liking. I always order a large pie with double pepperoni, thin crust, well done. Their boneless hot wings well done are also excellent. Usually quick delivery just makes them all the better. THE SLICE is a perfect piece of New York City on a Friday night.
