If you are looking for an authentic Japanese sushi place, this is my favorite. I can actually speak to the 'itamae(chef)' in Japanese and order my sushi. I ask the itamae what is new and fresh, and I usually order some of those. and I've never gone wrong with their recommendation! Since I am from Japan, it is comforting to dine at a place that is familiar to me. And if you are curious what it might be to dine a... view more

Surprisingly good sushi. At f...

Surprisingly good sushi. At first glance, I thought I was in for another mediocre experience at a dive sushi joint. But this places was actually much better than I could have hoped for. I don't eat Sushi that often because where I live, (central coast), it's hard to find decent sushi but this place I would eat at again.

Great quality fresh sushi in a neighborhood setting

Blo ws more expensive places like Sushi Roku outta the water. Nothing fancy here, just great quality fresh sushi. If you're used to the normal sushi around town, then this is a place to go to re-awaken your taste buds. Average prices for sushi was about $5.50 to $6.50. They had a dish of fried shrimp heads, great stuff. They have all the normal sushi cuts and a few rolls, nothing fancy though which is probably g... view more

The only sushi place for me

This place is simply the best sushi resturant I have ever been to: great fish, generous portions. Nothing ever frozen. The owner picks out the fish himself every day. the place is full of Japanese, so that should tell you it's the real deal.

awesome authentic sushi

ok........ if you really like or appreciate fresh, good-quality sushi, then this place is it. they're not open every single day and there's only street parking (if you're lucky), but the sushi is great. i don't speak too highly of most sushi places, but this place is the exception. i'm not into that new-agey/warm-rice sushi b.s., and i hope whoever's reading this isn't either, and they don't serve that type of sushi ... view more

NOT my favorite sushi place

I only went once, and sat at the counter - I ordered the usual (for me) Salmon, Tuna, etc. - the Sushi chef cut my salmon sushi very poorly, leaving all sorts of blubber and skin on the salmon. Now I have been eating sushi for many years now, and never have I ever been handed a piece of sushi with large portions of blubber and skin - this might be acceptable in Japan, but not over here - it bummed me out because I ha... view more

Unpretentious and delicious

I've walked by this place many times but never thought to go in (it doesn't look like much from the outside). However, my boyfriend and I decided to check it out after a friend recommended it. We were delightfully surprised at the quality of the sushi and the friendly service. This place is great for a date or a quiet dinner with a friend, but the space is too small to be suitable for large groups of people. We w... view more

Best Sushi EVER in LA

I'm Japanese and I've eaten alot of sushi all my life - so trust me when I say their sushi is as good as a local sushi place in Japan = very think long pieces of fish, the freshest that melt in your mouth, layed mounted over a small portion of rice. The chefs are older Japanese men (traditional in Japan that the best sushi chefs are older and men - sorry no discrimination here intended). You must sit at the counter t... view more
