Sunshine Villa Senior Living

This is NOT the place to put an ambulatory senior who likes to walk outside and has dementia. Because of their loss-history, Sunshine Villa has zero tolerance for this normal alzheimer's behavior. Unfortunately they have no outdoor area for people to take walks. Many ambulatory seniors with dementia get evicted from sunshine villa for walking outside or they will be placed in the locked memory care facility. This locked memory care unit is terribly small and hidden away in the basement.



The assisted living dementia care offers very limited additional support to people developing Alzheimer's. The building is very large and can become confusing to a person with memory loss. There is limited structured programing that meets the needs of people with dementia. As a result, residents with dementia risk declining at a more rapid rate and being placed in the locked basement or evicted when no longer suitable to assisted living.

My mother has been at Sunshine Villa for one year. She first had a nice apartment in the Assisted Living area but due to her declining condition was moved into Memory Care. Sunshine Villa the change in her condition fortunately did not require moving to another facility since she had already made some friends in the community. The facility is extremely nice and is well maintained. There are ocean views from many apartments since the facility is at the top of Beach Hill.



I regularly visit my mother since I am mostly retired and frequently have dinner in the beautiful dining room. Their executive chef was formerly at a fine restaurant in Aptos, and so the food is great. There is a wide variety of residents, and I've made a some friends myself since I'm there so often.



For my family, Sunshine Villa has been a godsend. We kept mom in her house until she absolutely couldn't be there any more. Sunshine Villa is a lot nicer than her own house was. At home she spent way too much time watching satellite TV, and now she actively socializes, goes on local scenic trips, and doesn't eat the same food every day like she used to do. I can highly recommend Sunshine Villa.
