Urinary Incontinence
Botox has been used for decades, both for medical and cosmetic purposes. As a medical treatment, Botox has been found useful in addressing symptoms of challenging conditions like blepharospasm (uncontrollable eye twitching) and a painful neck disorder known as cervical dystonia. Today, Botox continues to be a preferred medical treatment for these conditions, as well as chronic migraines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and some types of urinary incontinence. Botox Cosmetic was approved by the FDA in 2002 to treat glabellar lines—the vertical lines between the eyebrows known as frown lines. Since this initial approval, clearance has been extended to the treatment of horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet. The medication is also often used to reduce the appearance of bunny lines and produce subtle brow lift effects.

Endometriosis
Plasma is the fourth state of matter, an ionized gas with unique properties that are well-suited to skin tightening. Because lower temperatures are possible with helium plasma, and there is greater precision with this device than other types of energy, it offers superior results with fewer risks and side effects. Before its introduction on the aesthetic scene, plasma was successfully used to treat endometriosis. The precision of the plasma beam allowed for the removal of scar tissue from the bowels and colon without damaging the organs. When applied to aesthetic procedures, J-Plasma technology delivers a controlled beam of helium plasma to the underside of the dermal structure, providing a minimally invasive surgical approach to constricting tissue and stimulating collagen production. The addition of this step during a neck lift results in a smoother, tighter look to the outer surface of the skin, reducing the signs of aging in even patients who have experienced significant skin laxity.

The biggest risk of nipple surgery for nipple inversion is the inability to breastfeed in the future. Since nipple surgery involves cutting across milk ducts, it can decrease milk production after childbirth. Sometimes women can still breastfeed, but they may not be able to produce enough breast milk, and supplementation for the baby may be necessary.

Chemotherapy
Most cases of BIA-ALCL are treated by removing the implant and the capsule around it. Sometimes, chemotherapy and radiation may also be required. This usually takes care of the issue without further complication or death.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
The J-Plasty neck lift is not like the vampire lift in any way. The vampire lift is a non-surgical treatment that delivers platelets from the patient’s own blood into the dermal structure to promote cell renewal and collagen production. Follow-up is an important aspect of having breast implants. Dr. Lowenstein tells his patients to call or schedule an appointment if they have any concerns about their breast implants. The FDA also recommends that patients with silicone gel implants have regular MRI screening, not for BIA-ALCL but for rupture. Followup is important for all types of procedures- in plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery, abdominal surgery, or following most any procedure.
Reconstructive Surgery
In addition to the misleading advertising practices listed above, some groups of physicians have created their own “boards.” One of these, the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, does require significant and proper training in the field of plastic surgery that is limited to the head and neck region.

In 1999 one of Dr. Lowenstein’s mentors, Dr. Bahman Guyuron, discovered that some of his patients experienced relief from their migraine headaches following brow lift surgery. After this discovery, Dr. Guyuron investigated and found that out of 39 patients who had suffered migraines prior to their surgery, 31 experienced a significant improvement or elimination of their migraine headaches.
Eyelid Surgery
Most of the aging symptoms you see develop around the eyes can be eliminated or reversed with eyelid surgery. This procedure removes excess skin to open the eyes and refresh the appearance. Puffiness caused by fatty deposits is reduced by eliminating excess fat, and the skin is drawn tighter to create a smoother contour around the eyes.
Liposuction
Nearly anyone can be a liposuction candidate. However, liposuction is most suited for healthy adults who are already near their ideal weight.
Breast Augmentation

Shaped implants are the newest type of implant to become available. In their early days, they enjoyed a vigorous marketing effort as the newest and “best.” Now, as they have lost some of their luster, shaped implants are primarily utilized in breast reconstruction following mastectomy. They are also a good aesthetic option for some patients, and Dr. Lowenstein’s experience with all types of breast implants will allow him to help you decide if these are right for you. Like smooth round silicone implants, shaped silicone implants also come with a low risk of rupture and capsular contracture (hardening of scar tissue around the implant). The teardrop shape and textured outer surface help these implants stay in place, which can be advantageous for women who prefer a firm look and feel and for those who have a little bit of drooping. Shaped implants require a larger incision for placement but can be an excellent choice for the right candidate.

Neck Lift
R enuvion® — also known as J-Plasma®, J-plasty and cool plasma — is a new, non-surgical approach to treating loose and/or saggy skin. Its technology is based on plasma energy created by combining radiofrequency and helium plasma. This revolutionary treatment is a fantastic non-invasive alternative to a neck lift, tummy tuck or arm lift. It provides noticeable skin tightening, elimination of “crepe-like” wrinkly skin and increased skin elasticity, as well as a decrease in skin laxity.
Blepharoplasty
Dr. Lowenstein performs blepharoplasty under local anesthesia with sedation for many patients. If additional procedures are done at the same time, general anesthesia may be recommended instead. Your exact procedural details may vary depending on what is being addressed, but you will receive an explanation ahead of time so you’ll know what to expect. Incisions are strategically placed in areas where scarring will not be noticeable, such as in the crease of the upper eyelid, inside the eyelid, or underneath the eyelashes. Surgery may take an hour or two, depending on the amount of correction required. Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure, so patients go home a few hours after their surgery.
Abdominoplasty
Formally known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck is a surgical procedure performed to flatten the abdomen by removing excess fat and skin. It may also involve restoring weakened muscles. This procedure can help reshape your midsection by making it appear more youthful and toned. Ideal candidates for a tummy tuck are relatively healthy adults with excess skin, belly fat and abdominal wall weakness.
Nose Surgery
Body Lift
Besides around the abdomen, people who lose a significant amount of weight are also often left with excess tissue around the lower back, thighs and buttocks. Others may simply find it challenging to lose weight in these particular areas. A lower body lift can help address these issues. The procedure involves performing an abdominoplasty in conjunction with a flank, thigh and buttock lift. Tightening of abdominal wall muscles may also be performed along with liposuction.
Breast Surgery
Nipple inversion can be congenital, meaning it occurs at birth. The nipples can also turn inward after breast surgery or breast injury. Other reasons for nipple inversion include pregnancy, breastfeeding and aging as the breasts start to change beginning in the mid-30s. Breast inversion can continue through menopause as the milk ducts shorten, causing tension in the nipples and pulling them inwards.

G ynecomastia is a condition in men where the breast tissue is overdeveloped or enlarged. This results in excess breast tissue and may affect one or both breasts. Gynecomastia affects men of all ages; enlarged male breasts can develop in young boys from as early as puberty and can occur well into adulthood.
Cosmetic Surgery
The majority of these physicians are originally trained in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery and have good and safe knowledge of this region of the body. Other boards, such as the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, accept physicians that have had residency training in areas of medicine that do not even emphasize surgical practice.
Facial Implants
Whether you’re interested in a chin or cheek augmentation, these procedures are performed on an outpatient basis under general or local anesthesia, depending on your preferences and the amount of correction needed. The surgical placement of facial implants is done through small, hidden incisions, usually inside the mouth. Once the incisions are made, Dr. Lowenstein will create a pocket and insert the chin or cheek implant, molding it to fit your bone structure and create the desired result. After securing the implant, the incisions will be closed. The entire process lasts just 30 minutes to an hour, though any additional procedures being performed at the same time will increase your surgical time.
Bariatric Surgery
S ignificant weight loss from dieting, bariatric surgery and even pregnancy often leaves loose and extra skin behind. Body contouring, also known as body sculpting, can help remove this excess skin as well as reshape areas of the body to reveal a beautiful shape that lies underneath.
Chin Augmentation

A brow lift (also known as a forehead lift) is a surgical procedure that reduces wrinkles and folds above the eyebrows by adjusting the underlying muscle and removing excess skin. Using either traditional or minimally invasive (endoscopic) methods, a more youthful appearance can be achieved.
