Overall
Professionalism

Attended this "school" some time ago.Complete and total rip off. Dishonest, unethical and inhumane. One dog bloated and died while in their care, staff outside and unattentive. 6 puppies died right after birth later the same week, kept in unsanitary conditions. One of Jerry's trainers asked him "where should I say these dogs are from?" He replied with a shrug Belgium. The staff ,trainers were lazy and unmotivated. Not one student was happy or satisfied with the place or people when I was there even refusing to continue until Jerry finally spoke (conned) the group into more baloney. This place is to be avoided. I was going to take a police trainers course with them and they suggested I get buy a dog form them that would be my " demo dog" and return back to the class after the puppy got bigger. I was the first to put money down and didn't get first pick of the litter. I didn't think anything and drove about 7 hrs to pick him up. When I got back home with my puppy, after some time I noticed my puppy had a deformity. I didnt notice that on his vet paperwork that it said his incisors didn't line up. I brought this to the breeders attention and she shrugged it off. I had my vet and a local trainer tell me that I got played out of my money. I wanted a full refund and the only thing they would offer me is 1/2 a refund or 1/2 off another dog and I would have had to drive all the way back to get it and leave the dog.

Excellent

Let's start by saying that most who come on here to leave feedback are those who are disgruntled or had a poor experience, for whatever reason, and that the majority are satisfied and don't have a real reason to sign up and leave good feedback. I am very satisfied with the knowledge of the Tarheel trainers and their training philosophy. It works. They put out great dogs. In reference to the previous review, officer, you would know that the "arrangement" that a civilian has to possess and transfer the narcotic and explosive aids are called a "license", which Tarheel has, and the trainers are listed on. When you are actually training dogs, maybe they don't keep the place spotless, but what do you expect? Quality dogs? Or half a** dogs but at least they smell good..... Don't judge this facility on just the poor reviews.....most likely they are not the most accurate. I would recommend Tarheel Canine.

Overall

I was unlucky enough to spend a couple weeks with Tarheel Canine at their facility in Sanford, NC. I have been a K-9 Police Officer for almost 13 years and have been to numerous training and breeding facilities all over the world and I can honestly say Tarheel Canine is one of the worst I've ever witnessed. The facility is old, filthy, and falling apart. The owner (Jerry) is actually a very intelligent and knowledgeable trainer but unfortunately he has others doing the training. It should also be noted Jerry has a quick temper when things don't go exactly his way... I was witness to this on numerous occasions. His trainers are a joke, no ther word for it. He actually has a foreign trainer (Australia) that loads explosives and narcotics in her own personal car and drives around town to the training areas that are set-up. As I said, I'm a Police Officer and I actually questioned this... I was told "Don't worry about it, we have an arrangement with the local Police". Poor management, Un-sanitary conditions, horrible training, poorly trained dogs, bad customer service, certifications that aren't within industry standards, and violations of federal and local law... Stay away...

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE.. I to...

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE.. I took my dog there for a basic obedience course that lasted about 3-4 weeks. When I went to visit my pet the dog had lost ALOT of weight and did NOT know anything ..what a total waste of time and the staff there are not professional and dont care about your pets health my dog also suffered cuts on its legs and a sprang back left foot and they could not tell me what happend. I wasted my money my time at that place..Unless your are a cop or military DO NOT take your pet there they will abuse and neglect your pet..i found my dog in a dark corner that had no water..F*** the staff the whole place..not worth your money. The staff are good to your pet while you are there but behind closed doors they are different.

Excellent Experience

I don't know if the previous reviewer was talking about the same place I have been, but in 2010 they did a complete kennel renovation, and the training staff there is amazingly dedicated. As for giving the K9 world a bad name, they have trained dogs for law enforcement at the local, state and federal levels not only across the US but internationally as well. Maybe the reviewer who recommended Highland Canine had an ulterior motive to trash these folks, but I say visit TK9 and see for yourself the quality training, service, and facility.

Overall
big joke

This company gives the canine training world a bad name, point blank! Not only do they inflate their prices based on the client but there facility is ancient and dirty. I went there last week to see what the hype was all about and left vomiting. I actually went to a groomer to wash my pour dog. I would compare this place to a crack house, actually a crack house is an upgrade compared to this place. I must have waited for what seemed like an eternity to finally get service. After chatting online, I was advised NOT to do any business with its owner or trainers. They all stated the same thing ‘they don’t care about the client just there wallets’. One lady told me that she went there three months ago with her kids and overheard a group of men talking about how the trainers get bit, the spread of disease and how their training courses are a big joke. They all recommend Highland Canine Training which is just down the road, which I am pleased to say, is way better. If you do business with this company please open your eyes and get a tetanus shot when you leave.
