Get a 2nd Opinion!
We took our dogs there to get check ups & make sure they were up to date on everything. I mentioned that we had rescued the dogs and I noticed that they seemed to have had all their shots but I didn't see in their records that they had been on any heartworm preventative. So they recommended they be tested, as we were leaving they said that one of the dogs had a slight positive & they would send a blood test to the lab to be sure. The following day they called early in the morning & said they got the results & that our dog had heartworms, They gave us a treatment plan costing thousands of dollars. Of course first thought is panic and save my dog so we began the first part which cost us hundreds. Before undergoing the part of treatment which requires poisoning our dog & costs thousands of dollars we decided to get a second opinion. Guess what...he tested negative for heart worms, a year later stll tests negative. Sad to think what people will do for money!

The test on this dog came up positive for adult heartworms. The sample was then sent to an outside independent lab for confirmation. Their testing also showed the dog had adult heart worms as well as microfilaria ("baby heart worms"). This dog definitely had heartworms. A pre-treatment program was started which can result in subsequent negative test results. I discussed this case with a board certified veterinary cardiologist who advised that this dog definitely had heart worms and probably still does and should be treated accordingly. To suggest that our clinic tried to take advantage of a client is simply untrue.
