best pie and dinners in town

    Provided by

We were visiting from fFt Lauderdale and staying in Burlingame at the Embassy. . One night it was late and we were hungry so we started to ride around to look for a restaurant. We went by Heidis and said lets go back and try this place. We did and enjoyed the dinners and the pie. When I come out to visit again soon this place will be my first stop. I dream about that Banana Cream Pie.... \r Sonny\r Concert Sound Co. CEO

    Twin Peaks throwback...

    Provided by

I stopped in at Heidi's Pies to spend 20 minutes prior to a meeting down the street. I walked in and felt like I walked onto the set of the Twin Peaks tv show of years ago. The place has small town feel and the patrons (seniors and youths going to school) all called the wait staff by first name. I ordered the boysenberry pie and a cup of coffee. The pie was outstanding and my coffee cup was refilled a handful of times without me needing to request it. I'd like to go back and try their traditional breakfasts as they looked tasty and the menu covered all the basics.

    not impressive pie

Some of the servers here are just great! One waitress hadn't seen me for months and last night she remembered that I like my "sauce on the side" without me even telling her. But I had to wait 25 minutes for my take out order, and the food wasn't that good. The pies seem to be more about quantity rather than quality. With exception to their delicious, seasonal fresh strawberry pie, the rest of the flavors that I have tried seem about as bland as buying a frozen, thaw and serve pie from the grocery store. The only other good thing going there is that they are open 24 hours a day, and we definitely need more places like that in San Mateo.

    I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!

    Provided by

From the out side Hedi's pies seems nothing more than a little stop on the way to San Francisco. However I assure you that if you popped in and tried anything on the menu. You will never want to leave. I came here for the first time over 26 years ago with my Grandparents. Never since have I found a place that serves the sort of pies found here. Well after living elsewhere for the last ten years I was afraid when i moved back that Heidi's may not be there anymore. Luckily I was wrong. This place seemed frozen in time. The service is still some of the best you'll get in California. They still have the largest selection of pies on the peninsula, and they still have the greatest potroast diner ever. I would highly recommend trying the coconut cream pie and the chocolate banana milk shake. They're prices have also hardly changed over the years. So if your looking for value and a great place to make lasting family memories then I suggest trying Hedi's Pies.
