DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!!!! It will be a big mistake in your life. They shouldn't even get a single star. This agency oversees/owns multiple apartment complexes. I live in a two bedroom and pay $1800 so this isnt a hole-in-the-wall/bad neighborhood complex. They refuse to fix anything and they also fail to rent the premises with everything up to code/in good order. When we moved in there were door knobs brokens/missing, the patio was covered with a dirt/sap mix, toilets were broken, vent in kitchen broken, vertical windows wouldnt stay open, paint all over kitchen and bathroom floors, etc. When I signed the lease I presented them with a list of the itmes that were broken and they promised to fix them within the week, but that didnt happen. Upon speaking with the other tenants in the complex i came to find that they all had gone through he same thing. Mary, the receptionist and possible spouse of the one the owners treats women who call terribly, but when a man calls she is more attentive. Ernie the co-ower is a (worst name in the book), who yells at the tenants when they call him on the emergency line (his cell phone) for emergencies; like the time my nextdoor neighbors sink backed up and poored out onto the floor and ran into their living room, carpet and all, they called before it had gotten bad. When they called Ernie and he began yelling at them telling them that it was their fault the sink backed up and poored over everytime the people above them used their garbage disposal; unreal! Once they reported the additional damage and the invoice since they had to get a plumber themselves, Select Homes told them that would not fix anything or pay them back. The people accross from me had no heat for 3 weeks in the winter. They called to notify Mary of the broken central air/heat and they said they would have someone out soon; no one came. Finally after weeks of calling and getting the run around they had to threaten with the fact that it was a health code violation to not provide your tenant s with adequate living conditions; they fixed it the next day. The turn around int he complex is about 2 years or less. We have been here for a little while and are planning to find another place soon. My family owns rental properties and I manage them for my father and grandmother therefore I know the laws and what tenants and landlords are allowed to do and not to do. When I move out I know they will not offer my security deposit back, since everyone I know thats moved they've kept it; however what I do know is that I will take them to small claims court. It is unreal how some landlords think that they are GOD when it comes to their tenants. We have never been late on our rent, never caused any problems but we are treated like trash.
