I highly recommend the Fairmont Grill. I had the New York steak sandwich medium rare which was cooked to perfection.
The fries were fresh and the mac n cheese melted in your mouth. Our waiter was new but not lacking in attentiveness or politeness. They had a variety of lunch specials that I can't wait to return and try.
This is one of the best dining experiences I've had in San Jose. As soon as you walk in the door, you'll notice the great atmosphere, ambiance and friendly, attentive staff.
The menu is robust and everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed their meal - from the first piece of Shrimp to the last bite of Key Lime Pie. As for an entree, I would highly recommend the trout.
Whether you're meeting a client, relaxing after a long day at work, celebrating a special event or just interested in a great lunch/dinner, you'll definitely enjoy your time at The Grill.
I go once a month to this grill on slow days to have my space and fun. As always the food was great but this time the off duty assistant manager was over stepping his boundary with us. I was celebrating the fact I lived one more month of my life. Yes I was feeling real happy. Being the only two customers in the whole restaurant I took the chopsticks that came with my order and started to play ting ting on my plate and glass. The off duty manager decided to come in and eat two booths down from us. There were 90 other booths in the whole place but he had to sit there. He came over and told me to stop playing around. I was like, who are you? I said nothing until we started to leave. I told him I was sorry but I was celebrating my life and I am sorry that I intruded into his little world. His lady friend started to get loud towards me. I just walked away leaving her running her mouth. I talked to the manager and he just said he was sorry and looked down his nose at us. See we do not look like we can afford to be in his place, little does he know. I have now also learned that the assistant manager works at Anderson Steak House as well. I will go to AP Stumps for now on, even though we will not have the place to ourselves. They have much better food by far. Average bill for two is $270.00 in either place. The company in which I work will take their business lunches elsewhere. Average bill for company $700.00.
Total loss for the month almost a $1000.00 or more. See one never knows how just a few words and actions can spoil your business.

We decided to try Grill on the Alley even though we'd had a really bad experience a few years back. Maybe it had changed. We had reservations and we were seated at the round table just as you walk into the restaurant. My father and husband were being bumped by the staff since they were sitting right in front of the bus station and we were right in the middle of traffic. We asked to move. Our first mistake. We should have left. They wouldn't move us, even though the restaurant was half empty, since they said we wouldn't fit in a booth, 4 adults with 1 small child so we thought we would try ordering. After 20 minutes they took our drink order. We should have left. It took another 20 minutes to bring it. We finished our drinks, we're not offered a refresher and our first course of food showed up an hour after we were seated. We should have left. We ended up spending over 2 hours, $500 bucks, talking to the manager, being snubbed by the staff, packing up most of our dinner (since it was sooo late) and having a terrible experience. - Being natives of the Silicon Valley, we'll now recommend many other restaurants for families, celebrations and fine dining in the Silicon Valley
