Five stars vegetarian Chinese in San Francisco Chinatown

I have many friends who are Chinese medicine practitioners and vegan lovers. If you don't speak Mandarin or a local dialect, and especially if you're not of Asian descent, you'll need to state clearly what you are hoping for. It's okay to ask for green veggies off the menu or ask for no oil, no salt, no pepper in the soups and so on. A lot of us locals like this place because of particular dishes or because we really want to eat well and feel good. I'm a very picky eater (over 60),...view more and I've worked as a professional cook. I can practically live on the soups and ask for soups without salt or pepper. I like the greens and ask for them without oil. If you're here from out of town in the summer, they'll try to give you what they think a mid-westerner wants in terms of flavor. Even locals sometimes don't get it. Food is medicine to Chinese people, or their own comfort food. Let them know you'll pay well for something that's really special and not just for the tourist trade. All of the prices are incredibly low and reasonable, so make it clear. Of course, the staff will eat non-menu items. I did when I ran restaurants. So go the extra step and make it clear you want something special, what ever that is for you.view less

Delux faux meat

I am one of those vegetarians who adore good faux meat, and this is the place to get it right here. That gluten in brown sauce that they have up in the front that you can buy by the pound? Buy it by the pound- it is soooo good.. I have often fantasized about begging these people to write a cookbook, so that I can learn to do some of this stuff at home. \r
My favorite restaurant in the world.

We were disappointed. Despite the reviews on this site, we found the food to be unimaginative and bland. Service was indifferent at best. I don't care about ambience, which is good because this place had none. But I expected more in the food and the taste. The ""signature"" taro fish dish was unusual but not particularly tasty. We followed the server's advice on a spicy dish, which turned out to also be quite bland and unremarkable. The ""gluten sampler"" consisted of COLD glute...view moren globs with various sauces, the only one of which that was any good was the sweet and sour. Overall, a disappointing outcome for a highly rated restaurant. Hence our conclusion:\r

Good Cheap Veg Food

Pretty good veg fare. The steamed buns were delicious. They weren't on the menu, but available from the front display case. Service ranged from indifferent to outright rude. Forget about parking near here :P

Something different among the other C'town traps

The fried taro fish is their specialty, I might even consider it their signature dish since it's the dish that is talked about in the newspaper articles they post on the wall. I love my meat, and there is no confusing that fact. I need my rib preferably, but once in awhile, I have an urge to visit Lucky Creation for something different. In addition to the taro fish, the other dishes are also flavorful and savory. It doesn't make me miss meat at all. The cheap cheap pr...view moreices are a definite bonus also. Despite their hole-in-the-wall decor, the latest Department of Public Health rating is a strong 90 points. Check out R&G...their scores are in the 70s regularly.view less

try the dim sum!

Besides all of their mouth-watering dishes, they serve veggie dim sum on weekends, including peanut sushi, imitation pork buns, steamed dumplings, soy sausage, lotus and red bean cookies (for lack of a better word), and wheat gluten (soy, teriyaki, or sweet n' sour) which sells like hot cakes! You can eat dim sum for

As a Chinese person who's been to every kind of restaurant in China- from 5-star posh establishments to folding chairs & tables at a sidewalk restaurant next to the open road- I can tell you this might very well be the best Chinese vegetarian food outside of China.

Awesome food!

I don't know what those others were talking about when they didn't like this place! Lucky Creation has, by far, the most authentic tasting vegetarian Chinese cuisine! It's definitely a hole in the wall place but who cares when the food is that good?! Seriously, the best dishes include the Lemon ""Chicken"", the clay pots, and the Lucky Creation Fried Rice. Yum! Try it out!

I eat lunch here roughly once a week. I've tried most of the things on the menu. all but a few dishes are outstanding. the noodle dishes are the best. the atmosphere is cool (i wonder if the other reviewers expected fancy dining??)

Unique food, but unclean feel -- not wor

The food here is a rare find. Tons of unique vegetarian dishes. Most have imitation meat, which may be a turn off to some. The main drawback here --and I think it out weighs the plusses-- is that the atmosphere and cleanliness factors are awful. Service is unfriendly and full of attitude too. I think it only stays in business because of the unique food, which I found to be hit or miss. Definitely not worth it for me.
