Nothing special, overly pricey

I spent a great deal of time on the phone prior to choosing Marina Pet Hotel to verify that the item I needed (a microchip implantation for travel of pet to Europe) was available. After assurances by staff over phone that they had what I needed, I arrived to the dingy waiting room (circa 1972). The doctor was thorough and pleasant, however, she then apologized for not actually having the chip in stock!!! Resulting in delay in my trip/ increased stress at having to locate another vet/ wasting significant time. Also, I spent 138$ for routine blood tests .. and then charged ""$14"" nurse assistance fee. Come ON!!

Good Vets; horrible front office service / cleanliness

I would give ZERO stars if it let me.\n\nI give up - I saw the way Rowena at the front desk treated someone today and am never going back. When will it be my turn to be her whipping boy? I don't want to wait around and find out.\n\nIf they treat people this way in the front, how do they treat your animals in the back?

From Margaret on 10/24

Always easy to get an appointment and you always have the products and dog food I need. Rowena is immensely friendly and knowledgeable. Dr Kim is very thorough, returns phone calls promptly and is terrific at answering questions. Thanks for the opportunity to weigh-in

This is the vet who does the neutering and spaying for RocketDog Rescue. When I got my dog she was 5 days post op and both the foster parent and the agency rep said separately ""she was supposed to have gotten her shots"" -- key words: ""supposed to."" When I asked them individually why they said that, they told me that the front desk writes down what you request (including microchip) but they can never be sure if it was actually done. WHAT? The vets I go to give you exactly what you request .. It already seemed unrealiable when I heard that. Then I got my dog home and she was immediately ill, incontinent and bleeding and had an abscess the size of a grapefruit inside her abdomen where the spays had taken place. The tests and surgery could add up to $4000-plus. This was for a $175 rescue dog. Never again!

Always a pleasure

Always a pleasure with both the doctors and front desk staff.

Good Vet, bad front desk service

I think Dr. Melcon is a very competent vet, and I recommend her. the downside is the front desk staff. they are young and often rude. I don't understand how such a good vet has such a terrible staff. the parking is also difficult. but if you are looking for a good vet, she may well be worth the downsides.

Enjoyable experience

Overall an enjoyable experience. MPH is a fine sub for Pets Unlimited. I was able to schedule an appointment in a bind and the doctors were very kind and straight forward and they were genuinely interested in the health of my two dogs. \n

Dr. Melcon knows her stuff!!

I have taken my dog to Dr. Melcon for eighteen months. My first encounters with her were when she attended to his medical needs after being attacked by another dog. She immediately noticed the medication given to me by the ER was unsafe to manage my (breed of) dog's pain. She carefully listened to my concerns and offered advice as to follow up care. He is now healed and re-socialized with other dogs after having been ""quarantined"" for weeks following the injury to avoid infection. \n\nThe insurance plan is great. I signed up upon my first visit. The plan had paid for itself within three visits (made within a month of first visit to follow up on his injury).\n\nI feel comfortable knowing my pet has a reputable and knowledgeable veterinarian, and will continue to take him to Dr. Melcon as long as I live in San Francisco. \n

Horrible, horrible, horrible

This is the worst boarding/vet clinic I have ever come across. We boarded our dog that needs medicine three times a day there for one week. When I picked him up, not only did he smell like he had been rolling in feces, he had about 2 days of medication left over. I ended up having to take him to a different vet to correct the problem of not getting his medicine. They are horribly over priced, unless of course, you purchase their ""insurance"". The vets are nice, but the techs and the front desk are very inexperienced and quite rude.

Absolutely the worst

We left our pup with them for four days. We returned to find that the medication we'd left with him to be administered wile we were gone was still 1/2 unused. The front desk staff said ""well, if it's on the bill, we must have given him the meds."" I took him home to find that he's still just as sick as when we dropped him off. Furthermore, we left a blanket and three toys with him, we got one toy back. The desk staff (after much sighing and eye rolling) said ""well, we'll call if these turn up. I'll not hold my breath for this call. The vet seemed very nice, but the front desk staff could not be more rude, dismissive, or inept. Absolutely avoid at all costs!
