We have been using Kate's for our cats grooming for years after they were recommended to us by the SPCA. Things have been fine until our recent appointment.
We made the appointment more than an month in advance and arrived, on the way to work, at 8:15AM. Kate's opens at 8AM. The place was dark and there was no answer on the phone. Sometime after 8:30 a sign appeared on the door saying they would open in 20 more minutes. There was still no response to my phone call, and the when they did open, at 8:50, all I got was a curt ""sorry"" from the guy who opened, along with his reminder to be sure to be there no later than 6PM when they close.
Pretty shabby treatment for folks who are relying on repeat business.

I take 2 yorkies to Kate's and the service is excellent. I have noticed that there are cheaper grooms in the city but Kate's is very reasonable. Although, my little dogs can be very neurotic and scared at times, they are quite at ease with Kate's. Of note, we have been going on Saturdays and the groom times seem a little long but definitely worth the wait. The only other drawback is a long wait to get established and get first appointment (8 weeks). Of course, our dogs look terrific!

Kate is wonderful with my dogs, however there has been turnover in the staff lately. The past couple of times I have picked up my dogs they have been depressed. The new people working there are rude to both the customers and the animals. It's a shame because Kate is great at what she does! I went to her for 2 years but had to find a new groomer because of the downgrade in service.
