Great Seafood, but BURRRRRR

My Husband and I are from Nashvile, we visit San Fran three times per year, and always enjoy the fresh seafood. We walked into the restaurant, and was greeted immediately, but was not seated for several minutes even though the place was almost empty. The seafood was great, we both had the lobster bisque, which was great and he had the assorted cold seafood appetizer which was fresh and plentyful.

We both ordered the Alaskan Halibut wrapped in parchment paper which was wonderful. The total tab for the (2) appetizers, (2) dinners (2) soups, bread and a bottle of wine was $119.00 dollars, a great value. My only real complaint was the restaurant was cold and they did not have any heat, no central heat system??

Great Oysters but shells are disappointing

Upon entering we were greeted but were not seated promptly. Even though, there were so many empty tables, the host told us from the bar to take a menu by ourselves and take a table on the left. The happy hour deal is very reasonable for fresh oysters but having to take out shells from my mouth were very disappointing. Servers were just o.k. It took them a while to take our order. I would have to say it was a nice pleasant dinner overall because of the freshness of the oysters.

Great Food: Friendly People

This is such a nice restaurant where you instantly feel welcome. We were introduced by our friend Lynn who is a regular there. We were treated like family by the owners Sophia and Peter. The food is excellent and the wines many and varied. However, it was the people that made the visit so memorable. All the staff are just great....they are family of course.
We have been a few times and it is always busy....another very good sign.
We have and will reccommend Hyde St., Seafood & Raw bar to other friends.
Incidentally we are becoming regular visitors to San Francisco from New Zealand.

Best reasonable seafood in SF

I have wanted to dine here for several months and I'm sorry it took me so long. Food was excellent! Service was great, not to pushy not to distant. Raw oysters where some of the best I've had in the city and at a great happy hour price of $12.00 we order second dozen. Place is quaint, not to busy but after the 7 o'clock started to get busy. We ordered to different dishes (parchment paper baked fish and the stuffed prawns) both where nice sized servings and came with sides of steam veggies. I was completely stuffed but still found room for desert. Wine list is also nice, lots of bottles around the 25-35 range.

Good if you are not in a hurry

The service was good not great. They did take some time to get to us after we were seated but the rest of the meal they were pretty attentive. They definitely paid attention to us when it was time to pay, but we decided to take our time leaving. The food was really good. The crabcakes could have been cooked a bit longer but were still tasty. The fish en papillotte is amazing and very filling! Creme brulee was the best!! Don't drive...take a cab and enjoy some wine, but don't order the Voss.

So Sloooooooooww

Cute restaurant with good ambiance, cable cars rolling by out front. A little pricey, but my parents were in town and we wanted something special. We arrived on time for our 7:30 reservation and stood at the bar until 8:15 -Uhggg. My travel-weary folks were fading. Finally seated, drinks and appetizers came quickly. The oysters were excellent, the wait staff apologetic. Then it took another hour for the entrees to be served. We did not dare order desert. The food was mixed- my ahi tuna was over-peppered, and the other dishes were ok and good.

great food, great service

For five years, we've been coming here at least six times a year -- the ambience is relaxed and friendly, the servers always remember us (from our second visit onward), and the food is consistently excellent. Everything's fresh, the prices are good, and certain standout dishes make it difficult for us even to choose other things off the menu; it's always a struggle between the known dynamite option and trying something new that might be just as good. Absolutely love this place!

Lack of Service

We arrived at this restaurant and they treated us like we might as well leave bc it might be awhile for a table. We stayed and had a glass of wine at the bar and once finished we were seated. We started with the lobster bisque and seafood stuff mushrooms. The bisque was delicious, but the mushrooms left little to be desired. We moved on from there and I got baked stuff shrimped which was just ok, and my fiance' got potato encrusted salmon. The salmon had what appeared to be a giant frozen hash brown on top. It was awful. The dinner took almost 3 hours due to the lack of service. This place left a very bad impression on me and I am not sure that I will ever return.

One of the best food in town and they have a great setting. Really warm with their customer service. They treat everyone like family.

Awesome value for money

This restaurant is a real gem. Awesome seafood dishes with amazing service. The value for money is outstanding and the portions are huge. It's super cute decorated and charming that the cable cart drives right by it.
