I brought my students there to have a cultural experience in Chinatown. The owner was so friendly and welcoming to my students! The food were so delicious and fresh. Definitely a nice place to visit in Chinatown!

RIPOFF and GROSS!

Two words to describe Grant Palace: RIPOFF and GROSS! \r
\r
During my vacation to San Francisco for Spring Break, I made it a point to visit Chinatown to experience some delicious dim sum. Grant Palace is NOT the place to go! \r
\r
As we were walking on the street looking for a dim sum place to eat at, a lady handed me a flyer and shooed us into the restaurant. We saw that it was busy for a Thursday afternoon, so we decided to give it a try. Little did I know that I was in for bad
...view morefood at a high price!\r
\r
The dim sum was VERY hot, and I actually questioned whether it was microwaved due to the extreme temperature and poor texture of the food. The service was non-existent, and the plates and tea cups looked less than clean. \r
\r
In the end, the waiter attempted to charge us for a plate of food that we never received. When I pointed this out to him, he acted ignorant, and tried to take only $2 off of the bill. When I asked him to breakdown the bill for me (since the bill only had the total written on it), he rudely broke it down. I ended up spending almost $30 for 5 small plates of dim sum. I am pretty sure that the waiter ripped me off, but I could not prove it because there were no prices on their dim sum menu. How convenient!\r
\r
My recommendation is to run when the ""flyer"" lady approaches you. I said ""RUN!""

A Hidden Surprise

We stopped in while we were walking around Chinatown. We ordered 6 spring rolls, 6 bbq pork steamed buns and 6 potstickers. Each dish was $5.00 each. It was a great deal. \r
\r
The spring rolls were crisp and fat; not oily at all. The steamed buns were full of pork and not too bready, as sometimes steamed buns seem to be. The potstickers were in a class by themselves. They were huge; stuffed full of pork and vegetables. An order of these would be a meal in itself.\r
\r

won't eat there ever!

This is the worst restaurant I have ever been (no kidding). Not only the waiter was rude, during the whole meal, he did not even bother to stop by our table and fill out water/tea. The dishes taste awful; the squids in one of the dishes were spoiled... We should have figured that this place is terrible from the fact that at dinner time on a Saturday in early summer, there were only 3 tables occupied during the whole time while we were there.

Not Ture for 2/20/06 review

I wonder the 2/20/06's reviewer was calling the right restaurant? As I know that Grand Palace restaurant is under remodelling since 10/18/05, not open yet as of this date,3/19/06. How he/she could had a bad experience with the restaurant even not open?
Please ignor the rating for overall, since is required field that have to be click something to satisfy the software to proceed.

Don't bother - they don't

After researching many Chinese delivery joints, I choose the Grand. They seemed to have a good menu and the right price for Duck....my favorite. After speaking with the manager, we couldn't communicate too well; I then got in touch with the check-out manager. She perfectly understood my order, communicated that the order would be between 30 - 60 minutes due to the heavy volume, and finished the order professionally. After 1 1/2 hours, I called back. The very same check-out manager info...view morermed me that there was no delivery that night. I asked about my order which she already processed. She said that they were too busy, that it was raining, and that I would not be getting my order. THEN SHE HUNG UP ON ME. I have no idea if the food is good or the ambience is excellent, but the service is the worst I have ever experienced.view less

Horrible Dim Sum. Bad restaurant.

I very much disagree with the two other reviewers. I feel that the Dim Sum here is the worst that I have ever had - over cooked noodles, they do not de-vein their shrimp, greasy (not juicy) but greasy dumplings and other items also dripping with grease. They servers put the hard sell on you, and are generally dismissive. I found this restaurant to be very bad on so many levels that I cannot recommend it at all. From the table with the house stereo, fax machine, and time card system...view more on it, to seating patrons at dirty tables, the apathetic and indifferent staff, the hard sell dim sum servers to the greasy, nasty dim sum, it is al bad.view less

Excellent Dim Sum

This place rates high on the meter as far as great Dim Sum. The food is fresh and good -get there early cause it gets crowded with locals and it seems like they cook fresh for the morning so when the batch is gone, well, that's it -it's gone. The bao is plump with savory ingredients, be it chicken or meat, and the dumplings are juicy as well. The decor and location is really nothing to talk about -it's all about the food.

Grand Palace is a palace! This restaurant's location makes you feel like you're in a different land, and they have killer dim sum to add to the experience. Recommended!
