This is my first time eating here in a year or so. I have always loved the food and now I love it even more! there are a bunch of new things on the menue. Sweetbreads on a stick! may sound weird but it's AMAZING! Bone marrow fresh out of the bone! My first time trying, not my last, it's like a meat flavored jello. Again sounds weird but it's unbelieveably good! Pork belly is as good as it always is at Nombe! A must try! I was with 4 others so we had almost everything on the menue, it was all amazing! We asked the saki expert "Gill" to just bring what he thought was best for what we ordered and he did! We had 4 bottles and some samples. With such a huge selection of saki we were lost. good thing they have and experienced saki guy there to assist! One note about the decor. Love it! Cozy with an upscale feel. A must for adventure seeking Foodies!
Meat and Veggies were very fresh. Service was excellent and the place was So packed, and the wait staff were still all over everything. They give you a choice of regular water, a spicy miso or one another that slips my memory at the moment. They were out of a few beer types we ordered then they were out of my favorite sesame sauce, then they were out of the Saki we were drinking. I guess we hit this spot on the day everyone else did. The place was going off, there was a big party of folks celebrating a B-day I guess, so it was very active and lively, like I like it. I look forward to coming back here again, I will however make a reservation if they take them, I forgot to check. The shabu Shabu wasn't very traditional but it was good. I'll be back for sure.
Izumi Ya has always been a favorite for my family and I. We love Izumi Ya so much, we have been going there for 9 years. Although the service can be slow, we have never had a bad experience. The waiters and waitresses are helpful and polite. Their California maki and temaki are to die for! They make excellent tempura, potato & beef croquettes, and more. I love that nearly every dish comes with a small portion of spaghetti. It's a random item to see at a Japanese restaurant, but it is definitely tasty. Perhaps the only cons to this restaurant are the layout of the restaurant (small and cramped) and the menu, which was rather confusing to read the first few times we went there. Overall, Izumi Ya is an excellent restaurant!
