When we finally got a Dr.'s referral for physical therapy for my mother-in-law, I was afraid it was too late. She was lethargic, uninterested in life, and had fallen several times. Not only did she get a physical therapist, but she also got a nurse who checked on her weekly and other services. Within two weeks of the physical therapy, it was as if my mother-in-law had gone back in time 10 years. For month's, years even, Mom wouldn't leave the house. She had no interest in her great grandchild and was angry at anyone who asked her to do anything, including joining us for dinner. I really thought it was the beginning of the end and tried to prepare my husband for his mother's passing. After a few months of therapy, Mom is going to parties and going out to eat. This holiday, she was back to being the life of the party when we took her to her niece's house. The PT taught the caregivers how to show Mom the exercises and gave them a pamphlet with pictures and a schedule to check off which exercises she did. Not only has my mother-in-law's life been extended, but, more importantly, her quality of life is something that makes her want to get up in the morning and enjoy this season of her life. I thank People First for giving us back a woman who is the family matriarch and a woman who loves life. The care they give is priceless.
2 months ago my father was put on hospice. During his last days we were in need of around the clock care. He was in pain and my mother was so tired and she couldn't give him the care he needed. We looked up Firstat on this website. I called the office and spoke to someone at 3:30p.m. on a Friday afternoon. We were hoping to start care that night or the next day but we knew it was late notice and were expecting to start the following Monday. When I spoke to the office staff, they said they would send out their director right then to assess my father and they could start the care at 6:30p.m. The nurse arrived at 6:15p.m. and went strait to my father and started holding his hand. He looked so comfortable with her. He couldn't speak but he kept smiling. The nurse stayed with him all night and kept him comfortable. My mom was able to rest. The next nurse showed up the following morning and was just as pleasant as the first lady. She brushed his hair, shaved him, put lotion on his skin and made him look like a million bucks. A few hours later he went to heaven with a smile on his face. The quality of the Firstat was superb! They were professional, caring and exactly what we needed in my father's last hours. We would recommend Firstat to anyone! We were beyond pleased!
My daughter has attended St. David's preschool for a year, and I am very impressed with the school. The large outdoor play area is a huge positive - there are trees, shade, lots of space for water play (a regular feature), and tricycle riding. The classrooms are very warm and homey. The materials they use stimulate creative play. When I dropped my daughter off one morning last week the teacher had a fascinating blue and white spongy material with texture out on the table, along with small whales and dolphins. My daughter was drawn to it immediately and began to shape and mold the material, pretend it was water, and create a story with the dolphin and whale figures. The teachers know how to rotate materials and use them effectively. The teachers have a lot of experience and have worked at the school for many years. We lived in a different city when my oldest daughter went to preschool, and I was pleased with her school, but St. David's is my favorite!
