Talk about old! The Ocean Beach Antique Mall not only carries the largest selection of vintage gold and silver state and costume jewelry in San Diego, but it is also the oldest antique mall in Ocean Beach. Owners, Nancy and Ken Freeman have over thirty years of experience in the antique business, and it certainly shows in the couples discriminating collections. They carry the largest selection of hollowware, gold and silver bowls, trays and candlesticks and also have the largest vintage clock collection in San Diego. This expansive antique mall features 12 other dealers whose featured items include tools, primitives, religious items, sports memorabilia, ivory and an extensive collection of contemporary handmade doll houses, and doll house accessories. The Freemans were not always in the antique business. Ken, who used to work as a geography teacher, arbitrarily answered an ad to polish clock weights for a dealer. Through this initial connection he was able to learn the business, eventually become a dealer himself, and started his own antique shop in the heart of what now is the Gaslamp quarter across from The Old Spaghetti Factory. That’s where he met his future wife, Nancy, who was perusing his shop for a vintage find. Together they worked downtown until they moved in 2001 due to rising rent costs. They found their new home in O.B. and have been there ever since. So if you’re looking for a vintage find in the heart of the O.B.’s antique district, check out the Ocean Beach Antique Mall and find that old treasure you’ve been searching for.
My husband and I recently moved to SD from Seattle. We met Bill from Countywide to take a look at our first place in the Mission Bay area. Bill was, and continues to be incredibly friendly, informative, upfront and professional in the process of procuring our new home. His place was one of the first we walked through and Bill impressively encouraged us to look at other properties in order to gain more knowledge and peace of mind in the process of making our decision. When's the last time you ran across someone who wants your money and encourages you to check out his/her competition? He accommodated our timelines; has been extremely prompt in correspondence and when his home ended up being our number one choice, he worked with us personally and professionally in finalizing the terms of our rental agreement and assuring our absolute satisfaction. Bill's presentation, thorough follow-through on all matters related to renting our new home and the rapport we have established contributed greatly to our decision to return to work with him as our property manager. We feel very lucky to have met and established a working relationship with Bill and highly recommend working with him.
It's worth the price. The desserts here are fabulous. It doesn't matter if you just want a scone or a slice of cake. Occassionally, I grab a treat from Starbucks and really you're paying about 75cents to $1 more here but the size, presentation, and most importantly the taste is not even comparable. I went for the first time after a recent Boss' Day lunch. There were 5 of us and we started by ordering two items to share. After everyone tasted, we each got up and got something of our own. I have since been back there 2 more times and last week brought home a small dessert. My kids and mother each tasted it and surprise! my 12 year old has changed her b-day plans to include having her friends gather there (all the way from North County) to kick off her birthday afternoon. I'd heard about this place but really never ventured downtown for a taste becz I just didn't believe it was worth the drive and parking hassles of downtown. Parking was easy becz it wasn't in a very crowded area and indeed, they must use a special addicting sugar becz I think about excuses to go there and bring something in.
