Jim Storey Jazz!
philip.j.cenedella rated

Jim Storey & Storeylines live at Dizzy's Lots of electricity in the air for Storey's fusion project. 10 Robert Bush, June 8, 2013 FacebookTwitterJam Session alertsWrite a story for us More Sharing ServicesShare Email On June 7, Dizzy's operator Chuck Perrin provided an opportunity to experience the work of guitarist Jim Storey's fusion project Storeylines, featuring virtuoso pianist Lynn Willard, bassist Ignacio Arango and veteran drummer Gary Nieves, with special guest vocalist Janet Hammer. Opening with the complex "Jimnastics," Storey's distortion-laced guitar sketched ornaments in the manner of Larry Carlton's work with Steely Dan over Willard's 70s vintage synth-patches. The keyboard solo ratcheted up the kinetic energy and drew Nieves into some explosive counterpoint. Storey's original material drew heavily on the bombastic side of jazz-rock fusion, and his performances reminded me of shows I caught back in the days of Jan Hammer and Caldera, for instance. On "Orange Doom," the strong hookish melody and profusion of bent-tones brought Mahavishnu 3 to mind. Willard was featured on "A Different Point of View," with a Joe Zawinul-esque essay of melodica textures carving sharp curlicues through gauzy harmonies. Storey answered with an emotional solo lined with screaming vibrato. Hammer took the stage for a Crusader's like, backbeat driven feature with dreamy chords. Her pitch was solid and voice was supple, but with all of the electricity in the air, I had a hard time understanding the content of the lyrics. There was a nice, organ-shuffle groove on another tune with an almost Little Feat pop treatment where Storey's finger vibrato and chicken-picking hit home; Nieves' fulsome Billy Cobham style drum solo set the stage for the mayhem of "Acid Rain," and Storey's Al DiMeola meets Jimmy Page antics. For me, the highlight was "Blue Prairie," a very strong melodic ballad done with a nod to Secret Story era Pat Metheny. The slower pace, and softer dynamics allowed the nuances of Nieves' brushwork to enhance a beautiful Willard solo and the bass of Arango (who seemed tentative all night) to come to the surface. InStyle Event Planning is not ...

InStyle Event Planning is not limited to weddings, but also high school proms! As chair of Prom Committee we have dedicated 4 years to planning the perfect high school prom and Shellie Ferrer made it possible to have a Prom better than we could have ever dreamed of. Our dream truly came true and it was a magical night that 650 high schoolers will cherish for the rest of their lives. First off, the professionalism in this business is unlike any companies we have seen before. The connections amongst different vendors and her communication skills are fantastic. We were always in the loop with Shellie and the staff at the US Grant (our venue.) By keeping constant communication with the head of events at the Grant, we knew what to expect day of and no question was left unanswered. Also, every meeting we had with her was accompanied with a warm smile and friendly attitude. Shellie's creative vision is truly a gift. Our theme was Arabian Nights and all her suggestions came from a professional viewpoint and really brought out the theme while staying elegant. We had custom cabanas with beautiful fabric draping customized specifically for our venue. She even went all the way to Los Angeles to snag us a deal on the highest quality fabric. This action alone displays Shellie's willingness to help beyond what is expected. Furthermore, Shellie provides variety. The wide assortment of beautiful colors of fabrics and the beautiful satin chair covers she gave us to choose from could not be found in any other magazine. We got an amazing deal because of her connection with the company. Also, our centerpieces got rave reviews throughout the night as we had orchids in a vase with water, illuminated by a floating candle as well as arabic lanterns. These little things are truly appreciated. I give InStyle Event Planning my highest recommendation for weddings, parties, or any event that you truly want to make memorable.

Best San Diego Wedding Planner

We hired InStyle Event Plannning to be our San Diego wedding planner. Honestly, they know what they are doing! As a first time bride, I was very nervous about making mistakes that friends warned me about. When I found Shellie I was so happy and immediately felt the pressure off my shoulders. Finding a great wedding planner for us was key, since we lived in another State and did our planning mostly by email. She was very responsive with email and kept us on track with all details, our budget, and really made it fun for us. She had so many great ideas for the wedding day, that otherwise we would never have been able to come up with. She took care of all the wedding invitations (they even were sent back to her office and she would send up updated spreadsheets of our count weekly), catering (the food was delicious), and the flowers were stunning. From the first time we met her in her office, we were sold! She saved us so much time, and even got us great deals with other vendors, since she has great relationships with them. It actaully saved us thousands of dollars on other services. If you want your wedding day perfect, my vote is Shellie at InStyle Event Planning. You will actaully enjoy your wedding day and planning!
