If you are looking for a good place to…

If you are looking for a good place to get a mortgage...DON'T GO TO UNION BANK.We had a checking account with them for free and was told that they are very solid and no fees will be charged ever. I got a mortgage with them last year, It was a three ring circus. No one knew what they were doing and when I had a question, all I got was "I'll shot them an email and ask that". The loan officer was brand new, I was her first borrower and she didn't know much and getting a return call was near impossible. They dont' communicate with each other in the various departments i.e. loan office, loan processor, funder, escrow. All you get is "I'll shoot them an email and get back to you" Now, 9 months later we canceled part of our homeowners insurance and was due a refund...here it is 30 days and multiple hoops we have jumped through, and still in process and still...no answer to when my refund will be sent out. Today I called and was literally hung up on by the person that is supposed to be doing the job of finding out. She has never returned any of our calls to her. She doesn't return messages. II asked to talk to the person who's job that is, and she very rudely said "they are right here in my same department and as soon as they tell me when it is to be mailed I will call you. Thank you good bye" AND HUNG UP ON ME!!! Union Bank is very unprofessional. Unless you enjoy delays, unanswered calls, unanswered questions..find another institution to do your mortgage.

Plus...few months ago..they started charging fees for checking accounts.

    Difficult and disrespectful

    Provided by

This bank caused us more headaches than we ever would have imagined it would be possible. Most banks would love the type of business account we tried opening with Union Bank. After doing research online and going into every bank in San Diego, we carefully made our decision to open our account with Union Bank because of their surprisingly low fees. Everything went great until the manager (Kearny Mesa branch) got involved. After asking us two questions about our business during the process of opening the account, she left with the words ""I will be right back"". She never came back. Two days later we get a phone call from her, telling us that she had put a hold on our entire account. She didn't understand how our business worked, so she felt uncomfortable with it and had decided to close our account. Of course, we protested and set a time and date to meet with her. We had to go through a lot of paperwork to try and explain to her what we were doing. On the day of the meeting, she was late. Not only did we feel incredibly disrespected, but also discriminated against. After talking to her for about an hour, she still didn't understand how our business works, even though it's the simplest thing in the world, but at least she was willing to talk to her boss about it and make a decision, so that we can get on with it. Just a reminder at this point - we were NOT trying to get a credit card, a loan, or anything. We were simply trying to open a business CHECKING account. After having our account (which we had already made a deposit in!) on hold for an ENTIRE WEEK, they call and tell us that their verdict was that they wanted to close our account. The most shocking thing was that once the manager found out how much money we had in our personal account, she tried to get us to open a premium account with them - sure, after all the hassle we had with you?!? The managers at this bank seem to be trained to be judgmental, disrespectful, rude, and to not follow through with a single thing they said they would do. We would never recommend you do business with this bank in any way shape or form. The higher up you go, the more difficult it gets and the more involved you get with them, the more headaches they will cause you. By the way, this is the only review I have ever bothered to put up on any review site, but people have to be informed of the disrespect happening at this bank. Any other bank in San Diego would have loved to have an account with an average balance of $200,000, but not these guys!
