I have been taking my dog to TSV for three years and they are wonderful. They know me and my dog Gus by name and they always take the time to explain prices and care. The people giving bad reviews were not paying attention when things were being explained. Having a pet is expensive, and taking good care of your pet is part of being a good owner.
RUN!!!! Do not let them come near your pet, as soon as they touch them they will charge you $1,000 and keep adding charges without your permission. They lie and only care about taking your money (TONS of your money)!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT GO HERE!!!! They will screw you over! I took my dog in and she had fleas, they told me that I couldn't take her home until I sprayed my house, almost lost my job because I couldn't go to work because of that. She cleaned her teeth and did a bunch of unnecessary testing. It was a HUGE vet bill. She really doesn't care about your pet or you.
DECEPTIVE BUSINESS! My dog had a rash on his belly, and I brought him in expecting to pay $200 max for some anti biotics. I was shocked when I got a quote for over $700 for many things that were unnecessary. Now, I regret feeling pressured into paying more; I should have walked out the door and got a second opinion. Firstly, there was the annoying upsell; completely disregarding the issue I was there for (the rash) and trying to sell me on another brand of flea meds, heartworm meds, fecal tests, vaccines, etc... Oh, and they were "kind" enough accompany my already outrageous price quote with another quote for preventative care which was $900. Seriously? Anyways, I told them and wrote on the paperwork that I already give my dog Omega-3 supplements, yet they charged my about $40 for a bottle of exactly that--Omega 3 pills. Unfortunately I didn't realize this until I got home. They tacked on over $100 in flea meds even though I told them he was already on a flea medication. They said it "may" be the cause, even though I told them it was unlikely since he's been on it for over a year w/ no reaction. They charged me about $60 for a ringworm test even though I told them that my other dogs haven't shown symptoms of ringworm, which is pretty contagious, which also made this seem unlikely. Needless to say, it was not ringworm. They didn't listen to me and did the test anyways. Over a month later, I still have not received a call with the results, making me wonder if this test was even performed. The charged me for anti itch meds and anti-itch shampoo even though I told them he wasn't itching or scratching at the area. Once again, they didn't seem to care. The staff was nice, but I couldn't get rid of that icky feeling that I had just been screwed. I won't be returning. Two weeks later the same rash broke out and my regular vet was able to take care of it with some antibiotics for only $150!! If you're looking for a vet that doesn't even mention any upsells unless you ask and does not charge for necessary tests, GO TO PACIFIC VETERINARY SERVICES, they're awesome!!!!!
PLEASE, PLEASE, DO NOT GIVE DR. LUKE YOUR BUSINESS!!! SHE ONLY CARES ABOUT THE MONEY. SHE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR BELOVED PET.
My dear rottweiler, Frankie, had a severe ear infection and needed relief. I went to Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital because my regular vet could not see me on short notice. Dr. Luke told me that Frankie needed to be admitted for surgery immediately at a cost $700- $800! She encouraged me to make the commitment right away. She scared me so bad that I was ready to agree to the surgery on the spot.
Fortunately, I decided to consult with my husband using my cell phone from the exam room. He insisted that we get a second opinion from our regular vet the next day. I did not want to wait, but considering the amount of money involved, I decided that one more day couldn't hurt.
When we took Frankie to our regular vet the next morning, they told us that "HE DID NOT NEED SURGERY." In fact, surgery would have introduced an unnecessary risk. Instead, our vet prescribed some simple medicated ear drops and ointment that would clear up the ear infection over time. Sure enough, Frankie's ear infection cleared up perfectly. He has been just fine ever since.
These people tried to take advantage of me and my love for my pet. After reading some of the other reviews on this site, I realize that this veterinarian needs to be exposed as a fraud.
I stopped going to Dr. Luke several years ago because she was so loud, talkative and pushy. She always recommended very expensive treatment, no matter if I asked to be conservative. Example: My very ancient dog just needed to be kept comfortable, and she insisted on a night in hospital and IV fluids. When the time came to put the poor little guy down, I actually took him to a new vet because I just could not STAND to Dr. Luke's loudness at such a painful time. Also, I did not appreciate being shuffled off to her vet interns. d
They did a great job with my aggressive dog - she let them treat her without even a growl, even getting her sore paw examined and getting her shots, which she normally needs a muzzle for. My dog was a shelter rescue and usually doesn't let other people touch her, but she warmed right up to them. Friendly people, knew what they were doing, and my dog could tell they cared about her. I'd go back!
Great Doctor who takes time to talk with you regarding your pets problems. Staff is great and your dog leaves with a smile on its face. Can't say enough good things about this Hospital.
I adopted a stray kitten and took it in to Dr. Luke. She and her staff made sure I understood everything I would need to know to care for my new pet. They let me know I wouldn't have to vaccinate my cat every year that I could do a simple blood test to see if it needed vaccines after its kitten series was done. They tested him for Leukemia so I wouldn't find out after I fell in love with him that he was already infected with a disease that is incurable. They neutered him. They placed a microchip so that he could be found if he ever got outside even though I will be keeping him indoors. Turns out he does try to sneak by when I go through a door. I'm delighted with the service and care they gave to my new kitten.
I agree with the negative reviews and the positive reviews. I feel I am an expert with this vet since I've sunk over $3500 in the place. Hindsight is weird! At the time, I agreed with the Doc and let them fix my dog (first shots, ear infection, etc.). They were really NICE. However, the second time I came in due to my dog having a problem, I feel they did uneccessary things to her. Expensive uneccessary things. They push the weirdest products on you. And they do it in such a way as to make it seem like a "medicine" that your pet just has to have... as if you have no choice to turn it down. I don't like feeling vulnerable. I'm there to get my baby, who cannot speak and tell me what's wrong, some help, and so I end up just going along with whatever they said. Yes, this is MY problem for not getting a second opinion, etc., but they are too pushy. Over the top. They're nice, and I'm sure they really do care about your pet, but I would go somewhere else if you don't want to end up in the poor house.
Did you give a written list of things you wanted to be done by the vet? If that was done, I'm sure they would have followed what you wanted and called you if they found something different. I don't have any problems with this vet and I know they present an estimate for services. Did your friend know what you wanted the hospital to do? Did your friend tell anyone how much was authorized to spend? How can you blame a hospital for doing their job? If you did have a list of things you wanted and gave them to the hospital in writing then yes, I think it warrants some discussion. I know that after an exam sometimes what I want vs what is wrong with my pet don't always match. I went in for a neuter and they found that my dog didn't have two of what they needed to neuter him and the surgery to find the other one cost more than a routine neuter. They presented me with an estimate which included pre-surgical bloodwork and a microchip as I didn't think of that and they educated me on the reason why people should microchip their pets and have pre-surgical bloodwork. It turned out that my pet has a problem with its liver and they needed to do their anesthetic differently because the other way could have given my pet some difficulty. I don't know the medical terms but I was shown the bloodwork and saw the high values so I'm glad that I took their advice and had these procedures done. I don't have DVM after my name and I have to trust that the Doctor is doing what is in the best interest of my pet. I love the service that I received at Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital and would recommend them to anyone.

When I was looking for a vet and I went to many. No other Vet but Dr. Luke did a full exam on my pets. Dr. Luke and staff educated me on what I could do better to help keep my pets healthy and happy. #1 and foremost that they stressed is taking care of my pets teeth. They have many products that help me to keep my pets mouth clean and healthy. Dr. Luke always talks in terms that I can understand and even draws pictures to help me understand. I think that she is a great vet and I love the staff too. Very caring and fun. I would recommend Dr. Luke and her staff to anyone that is serious about the Vet care for their pet.
I just love Tierrasanta Vet Hospital. When I have my appointment Dr. Luke always does a complete exam. She checks the ears, eyes, heart, teeth, etc. It actually saves me money in the end because she catches problems before they become huge expensive problems. As for the cost of care? It's in line with other vet offices in the area. Pets are a part of my family and I carry insurace on them to help defray the cost of care. They even file my insurance claims for me so that I can get the most from my insurance. My pets love it at Tierrasanta and I love the staff and couldn't even begin to think of going anywhere else.
always friendly always dependable awesome dr and great staff my dog and cat love it there
We have had problems boarding our pets here. Everytime we've boarded out pets here, we received a call mid-way through the boarding to say that there is some problem that requires medical attention. And of course, that ends up requiring an extra $400-$1000 to remedy.
It is a small boarding facility but somehow, toys, blankets, etc. end up lost and never seen again.
For boarding, I would recommend somewhere like Dogs in the City or The Animal Keeper.
