General Info
Often referred to as “San Diego’s Town Square,” Liberty Station first began as a Naval Training Center and has since transformed into a community hub at the heart of San Diego’s history and culture, offering a unique blend of shopping, dining, art and entertainment for locals and tourists. Its history stretches back to 1923 when the then-called Naval Training Center welcomed its first recruits. The 1920s architecture inspired by the Spanish Colonial Revival-style provides a window into the past, as the NTC tripled in size through WWII and housed nearly 2 million soldiers. The grounds provided an important military resource to defend our nation until the end of the Cold War. As naval activity gradually slowed in the late ’90s, the NTC closed and transitioned into the community hub we know and love today: Liberty Station. With its rich historic roots, coastal scenery and modern offerings, Liberty Station now hosts hundreds of businesses, including restaurants, art galleries and studios, hotels, theaters, schools, fitness and wellness centers, San Diego’s first public market, event spaces, and more. Whether you stop in to watch a sunset paint the San Diego sky as live music begins, share a picnic with good friends, shop local for the perfect gift, or explore historic landmarks throughout the spacious plazas, it can all be found at this San Diego Community Hub!Often referred to as “San Diego’s Town Square,” Liberty Station first began as a Naval Training Center and has since transformed into a community hub at the heart of San Diego’s history and culture, offering a unique blend of shopping, dining, art and entertainment for locals and tourists.
