I have been going to Dearinger's for about 5 years now and I love them. I go in, sit down and let them have at it. I have not had a bad hair day in 5 years.\r <br>\r <br>With the cut they give me I don't have to go in every 4 weeks, or 6 weeks; I can wait months because the cut is so perfect it continues with its perfection until I am ready to go back in.\r <br>\r <br>I have never received bad service and the one time there was someone at the counter that was rather mediocre...she wasn't there the next time I went in. Their standards are high.\r <br>\r <br>For those who are put off by the minimalist decor - you are there for your hair not someone's decorations. The heavy decor and the serving of wine just jacks up the price, not the quality, of other salons.\r <br>\r <br>I like that they are not 'chatty' as I am there to relax. This place is perfect!!!!\r <br>\r <br>If you want to look like Aunt Suzie then go to Penny's or if you want to look like you did it yourself go to Super Cuts or something like that. They can't get rid of my wrinkles or make me thinner but if you want to look your absolute BEST, go to Dearingers.

This is the worst salon I have ever been to. My advice is to run as fast as you can away from Dearinger. Your hair will thank you. The owner does not care about his clients at all. Dearinger should be ashamed posing as a nice salon!!

I went to the La Jolla branch. Had a cut with foil highlight (half head). Be sure to print off the new customer special discount from their website, so you can try them out without spending a fortune. (20% off cuts, 30% off color). My cut was $43 with discount, $60 for the highlight.\r <br>\r <br>I saw Laura for the cut, she's very precise and seems to know about the trends. Everyone here wants to do the best job for your hair type (I have fine hair). So don't expect them to give you a bouffant do if your hair will never do it naturally.\r <br>\r <br>My colorist Kathleen is very easy to talk to, however I really didn't notice much difference in color compared to my natural shade. She put some blonde & strawberry blonde streaks in. I suppose I did say to not do anything too bold for my skin color (I have rosy skin). \r <br>\r <br>I don't know why prior reviewers got such bad service. I went in on a Friday afternoon and they were very attentive and un-rushed. Both of my stylists did their own work entirely (didn't pawn me off to a trainee). It's not a super-fancy salon with wine, but their prices aren't that high either. Very low-key atmosphere.

At first, I really liked this salon. I do like my haircut, but I feel thrown around. They always seem HORRIBLY disorganized. My friend and I joke to arrive 30 minutes late and you'll be perfect. The last four times, my stylist has had someone else finish my hair. One time, the receptionist blowdried my hair and didn't even notice that I was flinching everytime she touched my head, it felt like a mild beating. (I have also had the gentleman that appeared to be there just to sweep hair finish my blowdry). Last time, my stylist accepted a walk in over finishing the blowdry himself. They were 30 minutes late with my friends appointment so they offered her a conditioning treatment that they made HER pay for! Not even at a discount! I DO think that they are very skilled stylists, but seriously lack service. Sadly, I'm not going back.

I went to Deringer for a couple of times since I moved from L.A. My stylist in L.A is great and told me what kind of color and the proportion to mix so that I can color my hair the same color in San Diego. But the third time I was at Deringer, David was out of my brand so he used a different brand of colour and added more ash tones to darken it; all without telling me... I ended up with dark unsatisfactory color. I only cut my hair once there and was not happy at all since, after describing to their ""top stylist"" how I wanted my hair cut, he went ahead and cut it completely the opposite way. I'm sorry to say I will not be back.

First time venturing out for cut and color in SD. La Jolla location to the point: not warm and fuzzy, in either decoration or service. Colorist and Cut did not talk to me at all- which I loved. Both did a great job. I would go back. Cheapest cut and highlights I've had in a long time!

I was very disappointed after visiting Dearinger this morning - I'm new to the area and am looking for an excellent stylist...after doing some research online, I came up with three salons; Dearinger, Jet Rhys and David Perez. I set up consult appts at each salon to see which might be the best fit for me. This morning I showed up for my consultation, checked in and then waited for about 5 mins before the receptionist came over to me asking if I could come back two hours later as the stylist was behind schedule...I couldn't believe it, not just a wait of 15-20 mins, but two hours! Even if I wanted to return later, I couldn't as I had a previous engagement. I didn't feel like the people there were overly concered or particularly sorry/apologetic, they didn't even offer any other suggestions or try to work with me. I walked out and won't return. Perhaps this sounds a bit harsh, but I don't want to patronize a place that pulls this kind of stunt - certainly not good business practice or customer service. They may well do fabulous cuts, but I'd rather go to a salon where my business is appreciated, where my time is respected and valued. (By the way, I had excellent consults with David at David Perez Salon and Dani at Jet Rhys.

I've tried a number of different hairstyles over the past two years and have been largely disappointed. I've gone from medium length and gelled back (I'm a dude), to shorter with gel, to shorter still with no bangs, to medium length with gel, to longer with no gel, then longer with pomade to keep my hair in place and out of my face. Hell, I let my hair grow out 6 or 7 inches eventually. I had my hair cut and styled at four different stylists over this time. No matter what I did, I could not find a unique, cool, s*xy (apparently a bad word on here) hair cut. Just ""cool enough"". __||__ Finally I saw the City Search Best Of list and found Dearinger. I checked out the website and felt inspired. Booked an appointment the next day. When I got there, they made me wait about 20 minutes. My stylist was Daniel. I had to wait another seven or eight minutes after the shampoo while he finished another cut. No worries. When I finally DID get my cut, it was perfect. I gave him complete creative control, and he delivered. When he was done, I had the same hair cut I've seen on male fashion models... but never would've given myself if I'd chosen (just goes to show my sense of hair fashion sense!). Well worth the time and $53. __|||__ Now, one day later, people are telling me it looks great and asking me where I got it done. I've already managed to get two pictures rated on HotOrNot, and they were basic headshots I always got 5s, 6s, or 7s on before. Got a 9.2 and a 9.5! My best ever was an 8.5 on top of a mountain at Machu Picchu in Peru! Needless to say, I'm thrilled with my new do.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!!. I was made to wait almost an hour before I was seen because the stylist was running late and then I was told that she did not have time to flat iron my hair once she was done cutting because she was running late and I have a lot of hair. When I asked to see the manager the owner came over to me( pretentious, snobby and unfriendly) and explained that there was nothing more they could do for me that day and that he thought my hair looked better curly anyways. I regret paying for the services that day and I will NEVER, EVER go back. This is definitely a place where the customer is NEVER right, AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!
