The Caliph is a retreat into another time and place: a dark, cushiony Moroccan interior with many conversational niches (around the piano bar, at tables along the walls, center island or on stools at the U-shaped bar). Also the cozy garden patio with tables and umbrellas is another area to enjoy a drink, converse or smoke.\r The nightly entertainment is exceptionally fine-- talented performers with music to suit a variety of tastes from mellow piano and vocals earlier in the evening to the rockin' tunes later on. Weekly kareoke too for the patron-performer. With such a varied venue, everyone is sure to find something to his liking. \r Especially popular is the early Saturday evening 50-cent carved roast beef sandwiches. \r The staff is friendly and efficient and the patrons are welcoming and congenial. The Caliph isn't a watering hole; it's an oasis amid the hustle & bustle of Fifth Avenue, Hillcrest!\r
