Get a supporting, Christ-centered education. Begin and end each class with prayer (either teacher or student led), reminding students that all their gifts and strength come from God. Small teacher-student ratio--the teachers get to know your kid fast and know their capabilities, strengths and weaknesses. Teachers make themselves available to tutor during lunch if your student needs it and is willing to talk to parents when necessary on short notice. Teachers have a close relationship with students...they know them so well they can tell when something is wrong, if they are having a bad day, are sick, or even having trouble understanding the lesson! Sports are an important part of MCS to our family. Our son has the opportunity to play any sport he wants. The coaches care about our kids tremendously and support them personally, in school, and of course athletically. They are great mentors with kind, Christ-centered hearts. The girls in the front office are always helpful and greet you with a smile, willing to do what they can to help. There are plenty of opportunities for fellowship and volunteering--a great way to get to know the MCS Community. There is a constant desire to excel, exceed and always "do more!" We love MCS!
We have been richly blessed by our involvement with MCS. My children are getting a great education with a strong Christian foundation and they are growing to be strong leaders for the future. By attending MCS, both of my children have gotten opportunities they wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. Both have been able play varsity sports despite the fact that they are not superstar athletes; they have participated in theater- one as an actor and one student-directing; and they are involved in student government. My eldest even had the opportunity to work on an experiment that was on the International Space Station! But is not just the opportunities that make MCS special - it's the teachers and staff. Maranatha teachers know our children so well that they see and encourage gifts that would go unnoticed or undeveloped in almost any other school. If you want you child to have teachers who really care about and are not just going through the motions, Maranatha is the place for you!
My daughter was attending High Tech High Media Arts and after being bullied through social media and in the school she started sticking up for herself and the school frowns on kids standing up for themselves against bullying. She went from an outgoing, friendly child to a very sad and untrusting young lady who now doesn't want to go out. The school is great academically, but does not handle issues of bullying and other serious things that happen off campus very well. Like smoking marijuana.
