Tamjima is one of the best Japanese restaurant and Ramen shops in San Diego in my opinion. I can confidently say that I have tried most of the ramen shops I can try whenever I come here on business. When I left Japan after a five year stay, it was like an endless quest for a good ramen shop and restaurant. Unfortunately, here in the states, many restaurants that call themselves authentic are very far from it. You know the drill...Kanji writing that makes no sense, Korean owned general asian food. When I found Tajima, I ended up getting three of the things I missed for one price, very unexpectedly; a great ramen shop Japanese restaurant and an izakaya in one! The atmosphere, the food, the sake.....everything was great! Not to mention, Marukai markets are right down the street. If you love Japanese food, of just want a tase of their culture, do not pass go in San Diego without stopping at Tajima. (= Kapono
Fuji Steakhouse is the ideal mom and pops restuarant that provide great food and wonderful service. I had this bubbly waiteress that was so attentive. I found this place by staying next door at the Hilton. At first I asked the valet guys and they told me it was a great place for sushi! So I went over and tried their Hawaiian Roll, highly recommended by the waitress and sushi chef. It has 5 or 6 different flavors in one roll. Spicy and Sweet, hot and cold, cook and raw...totally amazing!! As I was sitting at the bar I could see across from me the teppanyaki chef throwing their spatula and forks around followed by the thunderous volcano. I highly recommend this place for families and single travelers just like myself.
Yakimono is a great place to go when you need a healthy and quick served Japanese meal. Their portions are generous and quality just right. I love their Sushi Happy Hour..just $2.50 for sushi...what a deal. The service is friendly and we get to know all the people there. A two thumbs up for this hidden restaurant in the neighborhood.
