I’ve been going to A+ Japanese for about 2 yrs at the time of this review, and have had services ranging from an oil change to replacing the timing chain and other major services performed on my 2005 Pathfinder. I purposely waited to provide a review to them (or any other service vendor) until I have dealt with them more than 2-3 times, as that’s when their true colors seem to reveal themselves. The first couple of visits to any business can always be great (or even awful) and skew the true quality of a business. Additionally, I’ve been dealing with Justin, specifically, even prior to his move to A+ from Boardwalk Nissan and it was a pleasant surprise to find him there when I first decided to try A+.



Recently, I took my Pathfinder in to take advantage of a Fall special which included an oil change, tire rotation, etc. etc. About a week later, I called Justin at A+ to express my dissatisfaction about my most recent visit who immediately wanted to make things right. Without getting into details, Justin heard me out and didn’t try to justify anything that I was upset about; he genuinely expressed understanding and a desire to retain my business. With my truck at almost 100k miles, I brought it back in to have work done that was recommended by their mechanic (no kidding – these guys are good, too), Justin and the mechanic walked me through what and WHY they recommended the work by visually showing me and educating me along the way. They taught and empowered me to make an educated decision versus a blind, emotionally reluctant decision to have the work done. Also, in prior service visits with them, they have actually taken numerous photos of the areas of the vehicle that required service and emailed them to me while I was at work so that I could see what was going on. This was unheard of and really impressed me.



After the walk through, I was more than happy to have the work done (new front brakes, replacing front/rear differential fluids, and various other fluids, new spark plugs, and more), and not only did they do another really quality job, they even bent over backwards and provided me with an overnight rental car on their dime without me even having to ask for it. Now this was true customer service and a class move on their part. They didn’t have to do that. It made me feel like they recognized my patronage in the past and that they really did want to keep my business and were willing to do whatever it took to make up for a poor experience after having established a good relationship with their shop.



I picked up my Pathfinder the next day after work and it was cleaned up and running well. Justin also informed me that they chose to use an upgraded quality part at no additional charge to me. Businesses can and will slip and/or make mistakes occasionally, and it’s great to see that when A+ does, they are not above apologizing and willing to go reasonable lengths to make things right. Because of their demonstration to committing to good customer service, I will continue to support, promote, and bring my vehicle with A+ Japanese Auto Repair. If you’re tired of bouncing from garage to garage, or even dealerships and their outrages prices, take your vehicle to A+. Hats off to Justin and the management/owners.

This San Carlos Auto Repair shop is the best. They have been repairing my Honda Accord and my wife's Acura MDX for about 4 years. We used to go to the dealership and then met one of the owner's, Eric at a San Carlos Chamber event. He was pleasant guy and thought we would give a local repair shop a shot. I am happy we did.



I have always found that they are honest and fair priced. I like that they send out photos with their recommendations, although I trust them with the repairs and it is still interesting to see what I am paying for. I highly recommend if you need auto repair to go check out A+ Japanese Auto Repair.

why i choose A+ Japanese Auto Repair

these guys rock. i took a vehicle i had just purchased to them for a complete inspection and they were great. i felt very comfortable with the service consultants (rob and steve). everything was explained to me in a way that i could understand and they even gave me a tour of the shop. this is not your typical auto repair shop. it's really nice and clean and very professional. all in all i had a great experience and i will be going back to them for any maintenance and repairs i may need. ladies, they are in with askpatty...check them out! ; )

I had a really good experience & so did my Honda :)

I had a really good experience bringing our honda in for a service. The staff here is very courteous and knows honda cars very well. I checked around after getting a call from rob as this was my first time here. The prices he gave me were fair and even a little on the low side which was great!
My car was finished with the service and brake repairs at the time they promised. They did a great job explaining things to me so I could understand them and I am glad I found this auto shop. I would recommend them if you are looking for a place to bring your honda.

Very good trustworty shop. customer service is excellent!

This is a great place to have your car serviced. I brought my subaru in for the first time 3 months ago and did a factory recommended service. I was very impressed with customer service experience. I really dispise taking my subaru to the dealership for service because the customer service is poor. Anyways, fast forward 3 months and I got a post card in the mail reminding me I am due for an oil change. I also got a follow up call from one the gentleman I worked with at the facility originally to set up an appointment for this. I would have to say that I feel that I am in good hands when I get a reminder call for something as simple as an oil change. I took the car in yesterday for the oil change and again was treated really well. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone that is looking for an alternative to the dealer. Aslo, it was nice that they have local shuttle service that made my day a normal day considering i didnt have to do a lot of cordinating with co-workers to get to and from. this is a really well run and professional family owned business

Amazing Service!!!

I had a severe oil leak in my car due to a prior accident. The car spent 2 months at another auto body shop for repair, yet they seemed to miss a huge puncture in a valve. I took it to A+ on a recommendation. I'm so happy that I took their word for it! Not only were they able to spot the problem in literally secongs, but everybody was amazingly friendly and went out of their way to take care of things that weren't even their problem (working with insurance to get them to cover the repairs). When explaining the work, they put it into friendly terms so I could understand. They worked fast and did all the repairs correctly. I haven't had any problems since! Thanks A+!!

lot of upsale, and overpricing

i was told that i needed certain repairs or maintenance on the car..$5,000 for an ABS (automatic braking system)..which was more than the car was worth...We had moved to a part of town where the car had to be parked at a very deep incline. nose down. which for some strange reason activated the ABS light on the console. I was told to have the ABS flushed which cost 2 - 3 hundred dollars..

Several days later the light came on again..so much for those hundreds of dollars...i later found that one CAN live w/o an ABS ..since the car is equipped with your standard braking system..when i came back and stated this..they agreed..but i didn't get my money back for the flush...

I had a hunch later, and finally found a flat area in the neighborhood to park our car..guess what? no more ABS light coming on the console..

i was also given a list of items that needed to repaired on the car for maintenance purposes. Which came out to about $700+...i took that list to jiffy lube, and kragen and had all of these items repaired, and taken care of at home, for 1/4 of the price..one of the items was a rear window brake light that ""should be fixed""...for about $25.00... the guys at JiffyLube replaced it for only $6.00.

Transmission fluid flush for about $95.00...Kragen did it for $60.00.

i understand you get what you pay for..and in some instances - you don't!

What an awesome place

Finding a mechanic you can completely trust is a rare thing. I came here based on the reviews of members of the San Carlos mothers club, first to get my brakes fixed and to deal with a chirpy sound coming from my engine. They fixed the brakes that needed it, didn't mess with the ones they said could go another 10k miles, and fixed the chirping problem for free.



Next, my wife's car's oxygen sensor crapped out (conveyed to us as a cryptic yellow light on the display). A+ Japanese Auto diagnosed the problem, but then told us to go to the dealership to fix it since it was under warranty and we could get it done for free. Wow.



Finally, my car was making a grindy noise (they actually wrote it down in the prelim eval as 'Customer describes noise as RRRrrrr') so I took it down to A+ Japanese Auto and it was fixed half a day later.



The thing I love about A+ Japanese Auto is that they have your interests in mind when they recommend work. They'll tell you what needs to be done now, what can wait and can even triage work if you can't afford everything. If you go that route, they'll offer to try and fix your semi broken parts instead of just replacing them to save you money. I never got that predatory establishment vibe here like I do with some other places like the dealership where they just seem to do random extra work to make more money, and that's what really matters with a mechanic

Total Disappointment!!!

I'm surprised by all these good reviews. Maybe I just got ""lucky"". Maybe you'll get ""lucky"" too.

I took my Toyota Camry in for service and A+ told me my front shocks were in critical need of replacement. I said fine and they did the work. While driving it home I heard a really bad knocking sound. Brought it back the next day and they told me they had accidentally put the part in backwards. Don't they test drive their repairs???? A+ took my car for another day and ""fixed"" the problem. After another test-drive, there was still an issue, although more subtle. I drove it with the service guy and he didn't feel there was a problem. I couldn't waste any more time wasted with these guys, so I decided to live with it thinking I was just hyper-sensitive. Today I take in my car for the rear strut replacement and the guy(at Precision in RWC) informs me that one of the front struts has been installed incorrectly. So after multiple attempts A+ still blew it...A+ has set a new standard for INCOMPETENCE!!!
