I am reviewing this place without a membership there. I am most likely planning to purchase a membership next week though. I had read some okay reviews and am looking for a gym close to my place that offers classes such as Zumba, weight/cardio combo, yoga etc. I am also more comfortable in an all female environment because I feel more comfortable. I stopped by without an appointment and was happy to see that you either have to have a key or be let in to even get in the front door.. A nice safety feature for a 24/7 gym.. But I was a little thrown off to have a guy greet me as I came in. I filled out a release form before starting a tour, and the guy (personal trainer) asked mr questions about my interests in an exercise program before starting my tour. The place was on the small side, but it was not crowded at all when I went (late morning), but I assume it fills up a little more in the evenings. The equipment appeared to be in good condition, and all of the cardio machines had a their own decent sized LCD tv monitor in front of them. There was also a cardio room with a "theater" in which a movie was projected on the wall to watch while doing cardio. The movies are suggested by the customers and the same movie is looped for 24 hours (calendar or movies us on the door). The tanning area looked nice enough with a standing booth and bed, but I cannot tan because I have a bad reaction... The locker and shower areas were nice, but smaller than I expected, and the sauna looked clean and well kept. You could even schedule a massage or nail appointment for a reasonable rate. The child care center looked nice enough, but there were not children around at the time, so I did not get to see the place in action. There was also a cycle room for classes that had plenty of bikes. As I said, I was originally thrown off guard by the male personal trainer, but he was very professional and polite. He answered all of my questions and provided me with the rates in a very soft sale low pressure way. It was refreshing not to be bullied into signing my life away when I first walked in the door. The atmosphere seemed relaxed, safe and great for my purposes. They even sell protein powder a few other goodies and have customer appreciation sales. I am using the three day free trial to see what the classes are like at different times of the day before I commit. There is only one group class room, so I want to make sure that the classes aren't too crowded.. But anyway, the place is a nice, safe, well kept gym that is a little small, but relaxed and peaceful enough to make you want to come back. And I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the soft sale. I am so much more likely to join than j would have been if I felt pressured. Two thumbs up!

So I had to say a few things! First off thank you bella for helping me lose 8 dress sizes! I have been a member for about 2yrs now and am very pleased. The reason I'm writing this is I read a review that I just had to comment on. Let me give you a little history on me and bella. When I signed up they did ask me to start working out asap and I did. I did join that day because I was ready for a lifestyle change. I can definitely see how this could put someone off though. In reality, I had shopped at 2 other big gyms prior too and thought about it, left, and never came back. Bella gave me a little push which for me I needed and got me results. I bought a 1yr membership and paid for it up front with my personal trainer. I worked with the personal trainer for the first 3 months of my membership and saw really amazing results. I like the fact that the trainers are female and are my age and have actually been in the same situation as me years before. This was the best investment I ever made and I was really impressed by the knowledge the trainer gave me and how it could apply to my daily life. Overall this gym is great for first timers like myself. Over the years I have gotten to know the staff and feel like its a community and I like that almost all the staff know my name and take the time to talk with me anytime I have a question. I would highly recommend you at least form your own opinion and check it out yourself. They give out 7 day passes like water :) I encourage any ladies to just come in try it out, talk to the members, the staff, and hopefully you will be as happy as me a few month from now.
Heavy Metal Fitness is the best gym in San Antonio....and one of the best, if not the best, in Texas. I've been a member of many globo-type gyms (i.e. Golds, 24 Hour Fitness, LA Fitness) and while those are nice, the quality at Heavy Metal Fitness with regards to equipment and atmosphere is unparalleled. Tim & Michelle (the owners) are always welcoming to anyone interested in improving yourself, regardless of whether you're an experienced lifter or brand new to any form of exercise. There are a wide range of members with varying fitness goals, from the basic gym goer who just wants to get in better overall shape to the more dedicated lifters who train to compete in the strength sports of powerlifting or strongman. In terms of a real No Judgment Zone, this place is it. If you want to get better, everyone is willing to give a helping hand. This place has everything you need, and a lot of items that you simply won't find anywhere else. Some items include: 2 x Elitefts squat racks, Glute Ham Developer, 45 degree back raise, deadlift platform, several standalone benches, tire flip, multiple sleds/Prowlers from Elitefts & Rogue, battle ropes, bands & chains, Texas power bars, Elitefts Safety Squat Bar, Cambered Bar, trap bars, Apollon's Axle, concrete Atlas stones from 145-250 lbs, multiple medicine balls from 2-12 lbs, dumbbells from 5-100 lbs, Farmers Carry, Jump boxes from 6 to 60 inches, etc.
