General Info:
ABOUT PIG STAND & STAFF The first Pig Stand restaurant opened in 1921 on the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas Turnpike. There was no dining room. Instead, the world's first curb service began. Folks drove up and were greeted by waiters who took their orders, brought them their food, and enabled them to eat in their vehicles. Shortly thereafter, the Pig Stand introduced the drive-through window allowing customers to drive up, purchase food from the convenience of their cars, and to go about their business. During the 1920s Pig Stands opened in San Antonio, Houston, Beaumont, and other locations coast to coast. Specializing in good food with fast service in an "oldies" atmosphere, the Pig Stand became popular with the young and the old for many years to come. The chain reached its peak in the 1930s with about 130 Pig Stands mostly in Texas and Californiaincluding Hollywood In the initial years the Pig Stand pioneered several food items: Texas toast, deep-fried onion rings, and the country-fried steak sandwich. Not only was the Pig Stand the first restaurant to offer curb and drive-through service, it also was among the first to use fluorescent lighting, neon signs, and air conditioning. The Pig Sandwich has been an item on the Pig Stand menu since 1921 when the first one opened in Dallas. The Broadway Pig Stand dining room sports this huge neon sign immortalizing the Pig Sandwich.

Years ago the Pig Stand in my hometown,

Years ago the Pig Stand in my hometown, Houston closed down. We were very disappointed. This weekend we took a trip to San Antonio and discovered that a Pig Stand was still in operation there. The next morning we arrived at the restaurant to discover a full parking lot. There was a swap meet going on and we went on inside. The pancakes were just as good as I remembered them and the service was also good. We have no c... view more

It's historical! It's barely survived! It's fun! It's friendly!

We moved to the Rio Grande Valley from Ohio a year ago and were visiting San Antonio for Fiesta. We were lucky enough to come in after 10pm. The Food Channel's recommendation isn't enough? Well being the first drive-in, and the last one of this chain (88th anniversary!), this restaurant deserves all the applause it receives! The fried chicken was wonderful, Robert and I agreed. Bruce loved the pancakes, Adolfo t... view more

The Last Pig Stand - Better than ever

I eat at the PIg Stand on Broadway at least once a week. For a classic diner, this one was built in the sixties, it is as good as any. Great Hamburgers, shakes and sundaes, as well as fried fish and chicken fried steak. My wife loves the Pig Sandwich. I enjoying playing a few old songs on the jukebox while I am waiting for my food to arrive. You can select your favorite tunes right at your booth. The service i... view more

Pig Stand

50's dinner look and feel. Great pork BBQ sandwiches and onion rings. Service can be slow if they are crowded and ventiliation is poor so you'll likely smell cigarette smoke no matter where in the restaurant you sit.
