This used to be a great place - especially for breakfast. Not any more. Ask about the old restaurant - Patty Lou's - and they'll tell you they Bharmay bought her out. NOT TRUE. They kicked her out so they could take over her business. Don't go there.Provided by Citysearch
I have been in San Antonio for just about four days now, and had the pleasure of stopping in today, twice. :)
My throat was parched and in need of the mineral rich sweet tea this town is known for. Though I happened in at an early, semi awkward time, the help and assistance the staff and ownership were willing to show to a random stranger was enough to set me back in my boots and take notice.
Since I was in a bit of a hurry and needed to post some things for my volunteers group...view more, Texas Soldiers Initiative I could only imagine the near-panic that must have shown on my face when I was informed that there was no wi-fi available just yet. (There had been a mix-up on the delivery of computer equipment for the establishment.) The lady behind the antique, malt shop style counter was overwhelmingly helpful..even going so far as to offer me her own personal air card and key code.
I noticed the picture on her desktop computer of a soldier overseas, in what looked like the sands of Afghanistan or Iraq... and decided to mention my volunteer work as of late.
You should come in for a handshake with this proud reserve mother, and stay for anything else that may occur.

There isn't enough space here to say what all I DIDN'T like about this place. I went for a typical diner lunch and found a funky taqueria that serves 8 Ruffles Potato Chips on their lunch plates. This place in no way represents a typical diner/soda shop bar that it looks like from the outside. The owner stomped around barking orders like a pitbull from across the room. The staff ran around like scared chickens scattering in her path. I couldn't wait to choke down my $7 BLT on two ...view morethin pieces of wonder bread and 8 Ruffles and skedaddle. Worst lunch choice I made this year.view lessProvided by Citysearch
Betty, the owner and her regulars were super helpful in helping acquaint me with the area. This is a great spot if you like down-home diners and chatting up with the locals. \r
Interestingly- I learned that the Whitehouse family had a made a stop here for chocolate malts (George) the week prior to my visit. Not that it seems be be a political place... it is just the kind of place that Everyone visiting the area should get to know. \r

I realize the pharmacy/""bharmacy"" thrives on its old-school traditions and what-not. But the level of service and quality of food cannot be over-looked on account of its retro and dated appeal... \r
a few things:\r
the food menu is about as long as my fingernail and its about as creative as simple jack ala tropic thunder..\r
the service was nonchalant/non existent with the waitstaff overdosing on a big bottle of ALOOF the nite before...\r
I do not exaggerate when ...view morei say the pharmacy had TWO menus in the restaurant, quickly snatching ours up for the 2nd party's arrival... \r
I might have been able to overlook the food and 45 minute wait for a burger and cheese quesadillas(??) had the staff not had such a flippant attitude about their customers or the wait...\r
Overall, there was a lack of customer appreciation and any sense of urgency. Olmos pharmacy can enjoy their 70th bday and rest on their laurels of yesteryear and the nostalgia of their last remaining customers who must be dying off... I'm hoping my next visit to SA sees them out of business and maybe a nice gas station replacing this remnant of a restaurant/bar ... ciaoview less
