    Dont do it

    Provided by

The day I went I ordered a sandwich and my bread was stale. When a new one was returned the bread was still stale. The food was less than tasteful. The restaurant looked dirty and there were a few tables with dishes on them. I will not return nor will I recommend to a friend.

The food is as good as the bakery!

    Provided by

If you go to Josephs Bakery you must try the KING RANCH it is sooooo delicious as well as there deli sandwhichs, there are many to chose from. During lunch hour it gets very packed but the food is well worth the wait and price. The sweets are Awesome and the owner is very friendly. Every day is a different menu selection so every visit is a different expericence.

    Mmm...good!

This sandwich/bakery shop serves up a lot of delicious fare and is right on the way to the zoo.

Wow! Great Kolaches and Cafe Mocha!!!

    Provided by

St. Joseph's Cafe Mocha has a KICK! It's a must on a morning when you're dragging to work! And their veggie Kolache OR an egg & cheese crossaint make a perfect breakfast. Great bakery; everything is fresh! I'm so glad my sister introduced me to it!

    Serendipity

I was on my way to the San Antonio Zoo and then children were hungry, by chance I drove around for a minute and saw St Joseph's. The parking lot is a bit akward but not a deterrent.\r The wait to order was very short and the owner stepped up when he noticed a couple of us waiting and greeted us with a ""how do you do"" and soon after our order was taken. The lady taking our order was very polite and went out of her way to quarter a masive cinnamon roll so my young son could easily make it to his mouth.\r I am not a Christian but the atmosphere was still very inviting and I found it to be a very good experience, combined with what may well have been the best biscuits and gravy I have ever put in my mouth.\r I think other reviews below speaking of the owner come from people with no sense of humor about them.\r Whenever I visit this city I plan to return.

Rude Owner for Sure, Not going back

    Provided by

After waiting 25 minutes for a to go egg salad sandwich, and 10 minutes waiting in line to order said sandwich, the owner asked if we'd been waiting long, we told him we had, and that we only had an hour for lunch and he said we didn't have to come back. For someone who is such a ""Christian Southern Gentlemen"" I have to say he is quite rude - this is the second time I've seen something like this about him on Citysearch. Too bad b/c the food is good but you can't patronize an owner like that.

What a great feeling to go and have lunch in such a wonderful place! To get away from all of the chaos of everyday life and be around a loving and friendly environment that brings you down to earth even for one short hour in your 24 hour day. Did I mention the great food??????? Talk about a wonderful menu and food that could easily be mistaken for your mom's homecooking, except mom was no where around.

No Need To Wear Christianity On Your Sleeve

    Provided by

I've purchased numerous baked items from Joseph's as a morale booster for employees. I haven't been pleased with the freshness lately but I didn't write them off until recently I purchased a single item, less than $2.00. The owner's comment, ""well I guess that's better than nothing"", leaving me to believe I didn't spend enough. I was encouraged to buy picnic baskets and other items in the restaurant. Count me out from any restaurant that treats one a certain way because of how much is spent or how much is not spent. I've read reviews about the 'christian-ess' of the owner. I too am a christian, but I don't feel a need to wear it on my shirtsleeve or make it known to everyone I come in contact with. The cliche 'silence is golden' is an understatement. True christianity reveals itself without you ever having to say a single word.

Great Little Hole In The Wall

    Provided by

Just discovered this little eatery on a short visit to San Antonio. While the atmosphere lacks a little in charm or decor, the food and friendly service is fabulous! The King Ranch Chicken is just like homemade - it tastes exactly like my recipe! The baked goods are absolutely to die for - especially the chocolate fudge cupcake. We were so impressed that we bought some sandwiches to go, and the jalapeno pimiento cheese was, again, just like homemade. This was a great little lunch spot find and we'll definitely return on future trips to San Antonio.

    Super Duper Spot

    Provided by

I have lunched at Joseph's for years. Even breakfast. They are fantastic. The food is great and I love that I am supporting a local Christian owner. The prices are pretty high for lunch etc. but well worth it. Just plan at least $10 easy.
