Overall
Speeding Ticket

I recommend you get another lawyer to represent you!

I hired Dossmann & Mercado, P.L.L.C. to represent me in handling a speeding ticket. Mr. Mercado advised me that the first prosecutor didn't want to negotiate differed disposition or differed adjudication. In short a probationary period that usually stands for 60 or more days. Meaning if you don't receive any other traffic violation during this period your ticket will be dismissed. When I hired the law firm to represent me I was told by the legal assistant that the attorneys usually handle the ticket prior to the appointed court date. In my case they waited to the last minute. Also they didn't even bother to talk contact me in regards to the speeding ticket. After the first court day came and went, I wasn't sure that the attorney even went down there to represent me. I had to call them several time to confirm what the attorney actions where. After the court date, Mr. Mercado advised me that he reset the court date to February 20th, 2009. Of course this is the first time he actually spoke to me. All other correspondence was done by, not very informed, legal assistants. He told me to sit tight and wait to give us time, in the case that the second prosecutor denies my plea. At this point it was decided that we would then take the case to trial. Apparently this never happen because a couple days later I get a letter in the mail saying that the attorney paid my ticket. Now the ticket goes on my record, and I run the risk of facing possibly of loosing my job due to his negligence in representing me on this matter. My advice to anyone who gets an attorney like this representing them. When you have any conversation or correspondence, write it immediately in a letter back to the attorney's office. The letter should state what the attorney said to you and that this is your understanding of how they are going to represent you in the case. This at least will give you proof of what the attorney is actually doing for you in your case. It also can be used as evidence of being misrepresented by the law firm and you can file an official complaint with the State Bar. In some cases you can have the attorney dis-bared from the state and make them loose their license to practice law legally. No one ever said an attorney had to be professional, but then again why are they practicing law and representing you if they are not professionals.
