Seriously whats worse than going into a resturaunt and the owner yelling at his employees for 40 min while you try to order and enjoy your family. Food was good as always but this time I went home and got really sick!!! Maybe stop worrying about the windows being clean and worry about my meat being fresh.

I saw that this restaurant was opening a new location on Hwy 46 which is near my house soon, so I drove to the 3009 location to check it out for lunch yesterday (2/2/2011). Don’t get me wrong, I thought the food was tasty; however, I just hope management reads this because there are a few tweaks that must happen to bring Capparelli’s even on par with a good Italian place. First: It was 24 degrees outside and after I sat down and removed my coat I noticed that it was still cold. After the waitress brought my water, she informed me that the heating system had failed. NOT GOOD. There was some residual heat from the kitchen but I put my coat back on and changed tables to be closer to the interior rather than by the front door.
I looked at the menu and decided to order the meat Lasagna that comes with a salad and bread. After about five minutes after putting down the menu, I noticed that my waitress was too busy showing some cell phone pictures to another waitress to be bothered that I was ready to order. Remember – it was cold in there – I wanted to sample the dish and leave ASAP.
After finally getting the attention of the waitress, I ask her if they made there own pasta and she didn’t know. “Everything is fresh – I saw them slicing the eggplant themselves” she said. Well I would hope that they use fresh eggplant for goodness sakes - come on – who trains these folks?
I placed my simple order thinking that the simple salad would arrive soon. She said she would be right back with some bread. Oh but no – she was back to showing more pictures to fellow wait staff. After a good deal of time passed, I stood up and approached her with my request to get the salad first and then the entrée. After another five minutes the salad arrived, it was tasty but still no bread. Halfway thru the salad the slighted toasted and a bit stale bread arrived. A few minutes later a pleasing portion of homemade Lasagna arrived. The Lasagna arrived luke warm with the Mozzarella topping just barely melted – no caramelization appeal whatsoever. It was like they micro waved it for a few minutes and threw it on a plate. The interior ingredients were great but the finishing process was dreadful. Please – If you’re going to server a good Italian Lasagna at least give it a good round in the pizza oven or broiler so I don’t still see the shape of the slightly melted individual shredded mozzarella pieces.
Don’t bet me wrong, I actually liked this place but they need to pay more attention to details. I am looking forward to their opening nearer to me, but only if they get their act together.
Don't be thrown by the location (strip mall) off 3009 in Garden Ridge or the small restaurant size.
This great little eatery impressed me with their service and servings. I'm from Chicago so I can be quite the critic when it comes to pizza and pasta. I continue to be impressed with the quality and quantity of food available. Matter of fact,,,I'm going to order a pizza from work before I go home. It's Friday!
