When I first starting going to this store, I so enjoyed it. Because it is not on my side of town, I did not get here very often. When they offered the service of a designer, years ago, I made an appointment for this lady to come to my home to help with color choices. She never showed up nor did she call. When I followed up, the store never called me back. The last time that I ever walked in that store was the day that I was cheated out of an item. When walking around, I found a beautif...view moreul, vintage writing desk set. I took it to the front desk and asked the lady to hold it for me. She said sure. Two ladies came in behind me and saw the item at the counter. The next thing I knew, the lady at the front desk told me that the item had been on lay-a-way and was on the floor, by mistake. Trust me, there was no indication on the item, saying that it was sold or on hold. The two women were smirking and not doing too much to hide their glee! I walked out & have never been back! RE: Fabulous Finds-Sounds like the store owners posing!

Years ago, I would regularly go to the store on Broadway and I know exactly what the other posters mean when they say the owners are arrogant and while they were never downright rude, I always felt they had an air of superiority over shoppers that maybe they perceived not as ""high class"" and while the merchandise was ""okay"", I never enjoyed my time in their store and eventually stopped going. There are too many shopping choices and I'd rather give my money to a store where I'm not...view more made to feel ""less than"".....view less

Prices are fair

I was really dreading going to Bygones because of all the negative reviews online. I've since visited twice and bought a wingback chair. The selection is great and the prices are fair, and furthermore, the staff did not seem as condescending and horrible as the other customers have experienced. I'm not sure why I've had such a different experience than everyone else; maybe the store has taken an initiative to provide better service. While the customer service wasn't excellent, the man...view more was cordial, asked how I was, and was not condescending when we asked him to deliver to an area that wasn't Alamo Heights or a gated community. Again, not entirely sure why my experience was so positive next to everyone else's, but I felt that considering all the negative reviews, my positive experience should be shared.?view less

I came across this site looking for Bygones phone number and am shocked to read the negative reviews! Seriously, are we talking about the same store? Bygones on Broadway and Bygones of Castle Hills. I have furnished 3 houses over the last fifteen years as well as consigned several pieces and my experience has always been nothing but professional. I would even go as far to say I learn a thing a two every time I leave either store! Both stores are always decorated like something out of a...view more design magazine! Both mother and daughter are always willing to give advice and have even let me take items home on approval. I really feel an injustice has been given by these negative reviews! San Antonio has a great place to shop with both Bygones, both value and great service have been my experience with this business and I would recommend you try them for yourself. They have been grossly misrepresented with these negative comments.view less

The owners are 'CROOKS'. (mother-in-law) included. I agree they are arrogant. They are also incredibly rude. My mother and I live in the area, so we have bought antiques, and other items. They are not grateful for your purchases. When my mother, who is 75, asked them questions about certain products, they were abrasive and annoyed. The wife is especially bad! \r

Unique establishment-poor service-buyer AND seller beware

A family I know contracted with Bygone's to liquidate their parent's estate. As per the contract, they were to be provided with a beginning and ending inventory of the items placed for sale and the items sold and returned to the heirs. I wish that I could say that the owner complied with her end of the bargain. The family did not EVER receive an initial inventory and when the final items were picked up, a defensive owner did her best to bully and cast an air of innocence on herself ...view morewhen asked about items discovered on her sales shelves that belonged to the estate but without an inventory number or price tag. When asked about the items, the general answer was ""It's not worth can just have it"" Why does she think she can give other people's property away? IF it WASN'T the actual property of the inquiring estate, why give something that didn't belong to her to them since in a consignment situation, the consignee does not own the property for sale himself. As of this date, the contract for an initial and final inventory has not been provided to the estate. This haphazard record keeping leads me to believe that the arrogant behavior is a cover for inept practices and sloppyness with questionable ethics. I hope that this situation will rectify itself-but I doubt it.\r
Neither I nor anyone I know care to do business with this establishment run by rude, arrogant, self-rightious people who have no sense of compassion at all. I witnessed first hand this terrible treatment. Profit at the expense of the grieving is just sad and to failing to live up to even a small contractural obligation is poor management at the least.

bad taste in my mouth

My wife bought a ""supposed"" antique drop leaf table from Bygones. When I got home and looked at it I noticed that the top was plywood (only 3/4"" thick) and had been stained and had new hinges. I also found a ""peel"" on a corner of the top which is a tell tale sign of plywood damage (I build homes). Kaye, the owner, was arrogant and refused to examine the table with me. She scolded me and insisted to refund my money to get me out of her hair, which is fine, but I believe this comes ...view moredown to a matter of what is right. She promised to send me a check the following Tues which actually didn't arrive for another week. She claims she had the table authenticated but didn?t offer any proof. This whole experience makes me question Bygones. They have some beautiful things, but I wonder if Kaye and her arrogant employees are too full of themselves and are not willing to own up to a mistake. BTW, we have been officially banned from her store. And she thought that would silence me.view less
