I recently graduated from Career Point College in May with an AAS Degree in Accounting Technology. I’m happy to say I just started a job working as an Accounting Clerk and I love my job. It took me eight months to get my job and it wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t attend Career Point. I was debating about attending a 4-year college university but being a single mother, it would have been too much to handle. Luckily Career Point had night classes, flexible schedules and even a day care where I can leave my son at while going to class and work. If there is any advice I can give to people interested in attending a vocational school/tech college like Career Point is that you should know what you want to do first and see what degrees/certificates will help you get there. I’m a very detailed person and I knew accounting was something I was good at when I took it in high school. I hope Career Point fits you and if you choose Accounting Technology, Chip Thornsburg is one of the best instructors in the Business/IT division that’s more than happy to help students!
As with any vocational school and tech college, you get out what you put in. I learned from great teachers who also work in the fields they teach. That was one of the reasons why I chose Career Point. Most professors in traditional universities and even tech colleges receive all these degrees and yet instead of applying them to the field they have studied, they teach it. How can you teach something that you haven't applied in the real world??? I studied to be a medical assistant and was fortunate enough to find an entry medical assistant job 5 months after I graduated. The school can only do so much to help you with finding a job because it's really up to yourself to find one. I am happy that they helped me as much as they could with the job hunt process. And with the night classes they offered, I was able to make time to work and support myself while not just attending classes but also participating in the school's Medical Society. If you're interested in the medical field, then I highly recommend starting off by joining Career Point.
Burnett Staffing Specialists did such a great job placing me at a company when I relocated to San Antonio from Indiana. Within a few days after relocating to San Antonio and interviewing with the ladies at Burnett, I had a phone interview for a temporary position at a world class company -- one that had been named One of the Best Places to Work in Texas several years in a row. After being selected at the company for the temporary position and working there for almost 6 months, I was hired on permanently, thus ending my temporary status and my time with Burnett. After it was all said and done, I was only out of work for one month total (from the day I ended my position in Indiana to the day that I began my position in Texas). This was a huge relief, since my husband is a full time student, and I am the only one "bringing home the bacon". I would recommend their services to anyone needing some help during these hard economic times.
